I never really noticed this this until recently. My Jeep has a dana 18 with a single-stick shifter. I figured it was the original T-case. Its a 68' with a v6, it makes sense. Except one thing: Low Range is all the way forward and I cannot seem to find 4WD HI. I thought the single-stick dana 18 is normally all the way back for Low Range. Otherwise it functions fine.
So what is going on here? Did someone convert a twin-stick case to single-stick on my jeep?

Sounds like it... Maybe it's a twin stick with only one stick?

Can you move the stick left or right? Dana 20 with U shift pattern?

Have you confirmed the case markings? Maybe you have a Dana 300?

Wouldn't all Dana 18 cases have the same internal gear arrangement? Converting the shifter/s shouldn't make a difference. Could it be some issue with your original linkage?

Yes. Suggest a PO took it apart and put it back together wrong. Take the floors up and snap a few pics to post here.

x2 on what Tim said. Very easy to get the linkage upside down and backwards.

Linkage assembled wrong, or possibly left the pill out? I've never tried to assemble a single stick without the pill.

Thanks for the replies. Huh, its certainly interesting...didn't know a guy could assemble it backwards or upside down. Its definitely a Dana 18. And it has a Warn OD on it. The Jeep's got an SM420 in it and has fabricated shift linkage for the TC bolted into the holes on the side of the 4 speed case. I looked at it this morning before heading out the door, and I think it is indeed the original case. Both shift rods are connected to the linkage and the front driveshaft definitely disengages in High. Seems to work well, I just can't find 4 high, otherwise I wouldn't care. I'll take pics later this week...maybe someone can tell me what's going under there.

then 4 wheel low. the photo above is a dana 20 i believe.
