Odd CJ-3A engine number...........anybody seen this one.

    My new rusty CJ-3A (451-GB1-14572) has this for the engine number: 4LR 100628 has anyone seen this kind of prefix? Thanks, Paul

    The engine is not original to your 3A. All 3A engine serial #s start with 3J. I don't know what the DJ3A engine serial # starts with, but I think that is what it might be.

    DJ engines are the same as 3A engines.. 4LR stands for Four cylinder L head Replacement engine, which means your engine was replaced with a new one from the WIllys dealer back in the day.
