I'll see what the one I have at home has tomorrow evening. I know that it came out of a dana 27 in a scout, and scouts never used dana 25's.

I just checked the Parts Catalog (W-1195 R1) regarding PowerLoks. Only two part numbers are listed; 924139 for Model 25, and 926814 for Model 27. It is interesting to note that both of these are for 3:92 -up (what some call 4 Series). There is no PowerLok listed for the 3:73-down 3 Series.
It is also intersting to note that these ONLY apply to F4 CJ vehicles. The application column is not marked for V6 or DJ models, though this catalog runs through the 1970 models.
The catalog illustrations show both 8 bolt and 10 bolt ring gears, but doesn't specify if they are Model 25 or 27 axles which are both covered.
The PowerLoks on eBay are for 8 bolt ring gears, and appear to be 4 Series for 3:92-up gears.
I'm pretty sure the later generation (early 1960s) M38A-1 USMC contract Jeeps came supplied with PowerLoks front and rear. These offered on eBay may be from that era, but that is only supposition.

Does intel suggests an expensive paperweight? Be nice to track down a buyer.
I considered ordering one, yet believe I'm more apt to go with the 30 should I look to upgrade the 27.

I just pulled my cover and counted my ring gear bolts. My jeep is a 69 with 4.27 gears. My ring gear has 8 bolts. It appears that these power locks will work for me. I currently have an open front diff

That is good to hear. I have a '67 and '69 that I am hoping to put them in, but I haven't had a chance to open either one up to check yet.

Just talked to a friend that bought and recieved one of these. He says it is exactly what the add says. 4 series Dana 27 Powerlock. Perfect NOS. If you were ever going to run a 27 this is the best deal you will ever find. Herm also sells all the right bearings to make these work in a 25 too.

Dropped the hammer on 1 unit. Just did the front axle on the Renegade so I guess it will be a paperweight for awhile. mike

I got mine yesterday. A box, in a box, in a bag, in a box. Mine has some rust on the case where the packing oil didn't cover. A disassembly and quick pass though the bead blaster, then re-assemble, -new!
Very happy! Wish I could fine one of these for a Model 30, though most of the internals interchange (not the 10 spline gears though)

They should be available for a while. Matt said he got about 500 of them! So much for the used D27 market!

There won't be 500 Dana 27s rebuilt in the rest of human history.

Most of the running Jeeps with a 27 are probably set for the rest of their lives. Many will see overhauls but not necessarily changing out a gear set or locker. Very few(especially outside of the diehard fans on this forum) are going to sink any money into a 27 if they are looking for better performance. Most will go for a Dana 30 or 44. I have seen a dramatic decrease in interest in old Jeeps as a project or something to build in just the past couple of years. There are so many cheap YJs and TJs now that the younger generations are far more interested in.

I guess it depends on your definition of rebuild. I'd consider throwing in a new set of bearings a rebuild. I can't really say how many 27's are on the road but I suspect that it's more than 500 & , given the fact that as you say the young whippersnappers are more into later jeeps, that most of the jeeps that still have 27's will keep them. Given that human history will not end until 3:45:27.155 AM SSCT February 30th 2277 (NCD) I'd say there's a good bet most of them will be rebuilt a few times each between now & then. There may still be a few of the power locks left available on ebay by then but I doubt it so Ii suggest everybody who wants one order early.

Watch the price as we go along. If this time next year, they are $125 each vs $175 now, I'd say Daryl's prediction may well prove accurate, as the market gets saturated.

I bought one- as much for spare parts since it shares many of the same parts as a Dana 25 or 30

The price will go up the second the seller recovers his initial investment. I would bet that 90% of the ones he has just sold live on a shelf for the next 10 years also.
