New uses for old parts....

OK, how's about a thread describing what used Jeep/car/truck part you have used to make other things. Something practical....

Like brake drums...use them for the base of a stand.

Or old transmission internals make great accessories at the press.

My grandfather had a couple of TALL jackstands made out of two halves of an old rear end. (The kind that bolted together in the center.)

Old rims make great places to neatly wrap cords, hoses, etc.

What else you guys done like this?

My Dad always use an old Dist. cap for a pencil holder

 

There is an endless list for me. Lots of old parts make good hammers or pry bars. Old wheels or brake drums(as mentioned) make good bases for stands. Axle shafts and axle tubes with these bases on them make the stand complete. F134's with the pistons still in them, if set up right on an old tire, make good beer holders.

 

Front output clutch from 18 transfer cases are just the right diameter for output seals on 18, 20, and 300 transfer cases. Old bearing races, inner and outer great for pressing in/on new bearings and seals for all kinds of applications. Counter shafts from tranny's make great press extensions and drivers. Small block chev fuel pump push rods make great drivers also. Ford Four wheel drive suspension arms make great axle stands when combined with brake drums. Big bolts and Washers work great for re-assembling Trac-loc limited slips. Cleaned up pistons make great business card holders. Old Con Rods make a great end for a steering box cross brace. Old tent poles work great for making hanging rods for hanging wire from for painting/hanging parts. Old Deep fryer baskets work great for parts cleaning baskets. Gear oil qt bottle nozzles fit on most ATF and engine oil bottles so makes a nice way of pouring the stuff with no funnel. Late model fuel filter caps make great plugs for lines, vacuum, etc. Full size Chev long tie rods make great long and tough pry bars with minimal reworking. Nickmil

if so the beat and punctured one i found in a creek makes an excellent toungue stand on my step dads old trailer

 

Saw a web site one time that showed how to make a crude milling machine out of a 4 cylinder block turned on end with a spindle with bearings in the top bore, a connecting rod used as an overarm support. can't find it now.

 

Old steel parts make a dam in China!

 

A little cleaning up, reconditioning, sometimes sand blasting and even painting allows them to be resold on the ECJ5 page or eBay so you can buy more used old parts...couldn't resist

 

well collectively and in the general semblance of a jeep as a whole they can make a great spot killer for grass....as long as you don't mind the possibilities of a tree growin up thru them

 

I killed a deer with a harmonic balancer off a 302 one day , does that count. A rear carrier with ring gear makes a gud boat mud anchor.

Step 1:Hit it with the truck , which breaks the back legs
Step 2:grab balancer out the back of the truck
Step 3:whack it across the head one good time , works like a charm.
Step 4: continue to lunch

Also works with the old factory rail jack.

 

Maybe we need another thread about how we have killed deer with Jeep parts.R) R)

Break your Sparton turn signal bracket. Next, section out a piece from the rear axle oil seal so you can use it to bridge the two halves back together again. Radius matches the steering column tube perfectly.
