I don't call that a quitter, just a lateral move. Same as getting a commando.

    1970 Jeep DJ5
    Hurricane 4 cyl
    3 speed
Odd sliding windows on the Meyers top
    Factory padded dash
    23,xxx original miles

According to the PO it belonged to a guy that got it from the military many years ago. He used it around his farm once in a while and then parked it. The PO bought it because it had been sitting and didn't run. He cleaned out the gas tank and worked on the brakes a little. He installed an electric fuel pump and got it started. He decided to sell and as I have stated before, "You know what happens if you go look." So now it's mine.

As a point of reference for those curious about shipping a purchase - I shipped from Atlanta using Mercury ($600). I also used them in 2010 to ship my CJ5A from Ontario, CA ($500). My experience was 100% positive both times. The optimum is if you can get the rig to a Home Depot or Walmart parking lot for unload and load. Much easier on the driver. Very good communicators during the process.

Arrived and sitting in the cold. I drove it to the house from Home Depot. Runs like most Hurricanes. Steering is very nice. Brakes need adjusting. No lights or turn signals. Many little things to fix but overall very solid. More photos in a day or two.

If this chart is true it would be one of 254 made in 1970.

    Bought my first part.
Figured out the fuel smell was from the filler hose being old and rotten. Ordered a replacement filler and vent hose from MTS. Same parts as 71 rear tank. MTS COMPANY, L.C. - Jeep CJ/YJ Gas Tanks

Other parts ordered are side marker lights to replace faded old ones and NOS lenses for the tail lights. There are quite a few crossovers for these tail lights. It takes some looking to find any in stock. The ones below are for a Dodge A-100.

This shifting instructions data plate references all transmissions and transfer cases. Under transfer cases it mentions Tuxedo Park. Seems like an odd placard to have in a 2WD. The red light is a brake warning light (inop at this time) and the knob below that is a pull knob that pumps the windshield washer. I did see that in the FSM. Didn't see the red light for the brake. The wiring goes through the firewall and down toward the master cylinder. It is hanging there tied in a knot.

That thing is cool! 99.9% of people who see it will never realize how relatively uncommon it is

Fixed the door handle on the Meyers Top. The screws came out and you had to carry the handle in your pocket. Good security measure but inconvenient. Also replaced the screws on the outside handle on the passenger side while I had all the stuff out. Both doors latch like new.

Also learned that the passenger door has an inside lock and no key on the outside. Never paid any attention to that. Interesting that the rivets are in the holes like that. That is the way they were from the factory. No holes drilled under the third hole. I just put them back the way it was.

Yes, I made the mistake of moving the inside latch to lock my CJ when I brought it home and thought the key would open the latch. No sir! Key only prevents outside handle from turning, sometime passenger is keyless. My CJ is keyed on both handles on the Kelly top. Two independent lock mechanisms that interact with each other. Good thing I have a gap in the trunk on the sides to use an old long bent broken phillips screwdriver to switch that latch back to unlock. Horrible feeling to be locked out of your own vehicle!
