I have a 74 jeep in which PO installed SOA and instead of switching it back to an SUA I thought that I would correct the problems with the current lift and move on. So that being said, I purchased a set of Rubicon Express steel shims and I would like to install them on the rear axle to correct some binding issues. Is there anyone who has put these on after the fact? Can you give me some pointers on the easiest way to install them?

I know that I need to:
    1. Unbolt the spring pack.
    2. Lift the frame
    3. Slide shim in
    4. lower frame
    5. tighten ubolts

Seems simple enough, right? Well, I'm trying to figure out when I lift the frame, how I keep it lifted safely. I have no jack stands that tall. How did you go about doing the install. Ive searched around but havent found much on the process. Lots of debate as to what you should or shouldn't do, but nothing helpful for doing the actual task.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help!

I have no experience with SOA, but I think it will be similar to SUA shim installation. The shim needs to be secured by the spring center pin and a longer pin may be required.

Remove spring and use c clamps on either side of the spring center pin. Remove center pin and reinsert through shim and spring pack. The head of the pin fits in a recess in the axle spring plate to keep the springs from shifting once secured by the u bolts.

I have seen others place jack stands on top of ramps for additional height but I prefer to stack and screw/nail plywood scraps to make platforms.

The replacement spring center bolt is really long, and this helps you draw the spring pack together. Cut off the extra. You may still need clamps to bring the leaves together. Thick end of the shim at the rear for spring-over.
