I bought a new horn and horn button for my 1974 CJ5. I can't figure out how to install it. I can see wires in the column but can't get them out of figure out where they go. Anybody know how to do this?

That wire which goes from the button should be soldered to a brass collar. That collar slides on the shaft and lines up with the plastic piece (if you still have it) on the bottom of the column tube, just below the steering wheel. That plastic piece has a metal tab under it that makes contact with the collar. There should be a wire going from that plastic piece to the horn or horn relay. When you press the button, it will complete the circuit by grounding out and the horn will blow.

I never got mine hooked up to beep correctly. When I turn my wheel, the horn will blow unexpectedly. I'm thinking of just putting a horn button on the dash.

Do y'all know a good place to buy a new horn button and the contact? I think the easiest way to remove mine is to cut off the contact.

It does work. I needed to sand the inside a bit as it was too tight of a fit.
