new fenders

I bought 2 new fenders from 4wheeldrive hardware for my 69 cj5 had to do a lot of cutting on the wheel well to get them to fit they look great but has anyone else ran into this thanks

 

Define cutting on the wheel well...I bought new 69 up fenders for my earlier tub and had to trim them so the shock and mount would clear...is that what you mean? IIRC the cut out in the fenders was either too far forward or too far back cant remember

 

I had to do the same. Also had to cut out the bolt holes for the grill as they were off. I would never buy aftermarket fenders. Only reason I had them is they came with my Daughter's Jeep and we didn't have any others to put on at the time. The fit is terrible and required a lot of re-working to make them "ok".

 

I put an aftermarket on my 65 and had no issues with fit and didn't have to trim anything. I didn't like the stamping of the front of the fender. It was wrinkled and really showed when compared to the OEM. The metal was lighter. But at 30 mph you can't tell the difference. My fender was without the marker light hole.

 

I had to cut around the shockmounts and the bottom edge of wheel well near firewall. it did bolt up to my grill just fine but what i don't get is these were supposed to fit 69 - 71 only so i thought they would fit better my old fenders were aftermarket they also were cut. i dug them out of the scrap pile lastnite they didnt have side indent.

 

I had to do the same cutting in the same areas...reproduction sheet metal always requires work to fit..always best to try and fix your old metal but that isnt always possible or cost effective.

 

fixing my old fenders was beyond my skill they had already been bondoded up. ( i don't know if bondoded is word but i'm going with it)
