I was all ready to go for a first drive today when I discovered that the clutch will not release. Everything is new, so it may not be setup correctly.

With the cable adjusted all the way in, the pedal has just the right amount of travel before the throwout bearing engages the clutch. The cable could be shortened another 1/4 inch with the jam nut removed. Does that sound right?

The clutch pedal rod is 10.5 inches. Is that the right length?

The arm for the clutch cable on the stock pivot tube is longer than the new aftermarket replacement. Do I need to cut and lengthen the new one?

The center hub on the clutch disk is offset making it impossible to assemble the disk backwards. It might be possible to put the throw out bearing in backwards, but I'm pretty sure I got that on right.

I don't think a throwout bearing could be installed backwards. It would make a tremendous ruckus if it was.

Anyway, is the throwout fork moving? How far?

I agree I have seen it 3 or 4 times,it is a common mistake. If the throwout fork is moving that the clutch disk almost has to be the problem!

Yep, you can put 'em in backwards in most any application and yes that's experience. The spring pack should face the pressure plate.

I bought a car with the disk in backwards, it behaved exactly like you describe. When I tore it all apart the hub of the clutch disk was grinding on the heads of the flywheel bolts.
