It doesn't have to be "perfect" to be perfect! :)

I’ll need to get under it and check it out more closely...needs a good underneath cleaning around the motor/trans, but no leakage noticed on the ground under it.

Beautiful Jeep, I am totally jealous of such a climate/place that doesn’t eat these Jeeps up winter after winter. However, I am not jealous of the 100+ degree temps! Good luck trying to find a Jeep in such original and nice condition up here! Factory swivel drain plugs? Mine are long gone! Fantastic, Ray. I really enjoy seeing the pics of its originality. Enjoy her!

Well, it sure looks like what the PO told me...”garaged since new”. I’m 63 and work outside a lot, so earlier this evening with some cloud cover and the temp had dropped from 100 to 96, the wife and I went for a drive in the jeep and we both commented on how “cool” the breeze was, ha, guess we’re as used to it as a person can get...it’s cold weather that gets to us, but we’re native Texans!

Amazing original and unmolested jeep - congrats! Love the documentation too. It's so cool that the PO kept it pristine - you're a lucky new owner. My '56 is in similar condition (except for the obvious dash situation): Media for user: TonyM | ECJ5

And yeah.. 100 degrees.. no. Just no. I don’t like working outside when it’s 75 lol.

I want to see under the hood some more and the dash knobs
    and shift pattern decal.

I think most everyone here has a reproduction because the old ones
    cracked, faded and peeled off.

Fluid film will halt the rust under the tub and in the toolbox without adding paint or some other coating.

Okay, sorry, been on another thread learning about batteries, ha. I’ve only had the ‘63 for a week now and I still work for a living. I have driven it 10-12 miles everyday, runs fine to me, but I’m an ignorant newby when it comes to ecjs. I had it up to 55 on a mild incline before I chickened out, seems to ride real good and smooth and realatively quiet at 35-45. The clutch engages after only about 3/4 to an inch of downward travel. The brakes have very little travel also and i’ve gotten used to planning my braking wayyyy ahead of time, ha. Shifting is smooth with no jumping out of any gear. Four wheel drive works fine but I haven’t messed with the hubs yet. The horn is kinda weak sounding. The direction signals don’t seem to be working. The front lights seemed fine when I first checked them, small runnin lights(?) on at half pull, headlights only at full pull, but today one running light stays on with knob pushed all the way in, I do see a disconnected wire hanging down from behind the dash that I hadn’t noticed before. I’m new to this site and unfamiliar with basic protocol, so I don’t know if this is interesting to anyone or not...of course I’m all excited about it all, ha. I guess I kinda got in trouble asking about a tech manual here in the “tech” forum, ha, my thread was moved to an appropriate area, I didn’t know I had posted it correctly, so posted it again when I didn’t see it, compounding my “rule breaking” situation, sorry about that, I’m just learning, ha.

The shift decal is centered directly behind the steering column and centered vertically between the knobs to the left of it. The glove box liner is 99.9% perfect.

I did have the chance to crawl under the jeep this evening with a good light. There is NO rust rot and only minor surface rust, and it’s not everywhere. Frame is beautiful. Hat channels are great. There is some dried mud here and there, ha. There is some grease gunk in areas around the trans, transfer case, diffs, brakes, etc, but after a week in my garage, and daily driving a little, there is not one drop or speck of oil on the cardboard I put under it just in case, very surprising! Afraid to power wash the under carriage for fear I might cause it to start leaking somewhere, ha. It looks like exactly what the PO told me, always garaged, driven some here and there, not babied, but not abused. Probably not off road much, if any. But not meticulously kept spotless clean. Very, very nice and original. Took me years to find and I know how lucky I am because i’ve Looked at maybe fifty jeeps over the last 5-6 years. I’m a happy camper, ha!

Congratulations again, what a beautiful stock original cj5 to be able to find and buy.
Enjoy seeing all the clear up close pictures you take for us. Great references for our own jeeps. Cheers!
