I'm trying to figure out what to do for a swing-out tire carrier for my M38. I'm also planning on adding a rear bumper. So I would really appreciate if you guys would post pics of your tire carriers. I also would like to be able to carry 2 jerry cans on the swing-out.

Use the force Luke  As if you haven't heard THAT one before....

Seriously, go to search and do one for spare tire or swing out. Search will pull up several hits.

Also, what capabilities do you have? If you can cut and weld up to 1/4" thick stuff or so, then you could make one yourself prolly. I think that most of us that made our own did so becuase of the lack of choice and the $$ they cost when purchased.

Well, I can't do any welding myself........I know I should learn since I own a jeep........I do have a friend that welds and I was mainly wanting to see pics of what other people have made so I could get some ideas. I found a few pics of swing-outs that look cool, but none so far that I really like....mainly because I haven't seen any that can also hold 2 jerry cans. So my request still stands, please feel free to post pics of you swing-out tire carriers.

Not a fold out, but a fold down. You could adapt maybe....

The thing when fabricating is to get a whole bunch of ideas, and modifiy to fit your needs. I don't think that many who have done the project had really started with one set of plans and ended up with exactly that. Keep your eyes open, gather as much info as possible, and start brainstorming!
Oh yea, don't forget K.I.S.S. Think through the steps you need to take to achieve your goal, and find out where the troubles are. This has saved me a whole mess of work.

That's what I'm in the process of doing..........gathering ideas. I don't think a swing down would work for me with my 35" tires.

I'll try a couple pics for you. Swing out carrier with Hi-lift mount, pic of the hinge (bought from King Metals, 2000# gate hinge) and a pic of the stainless latch (DeStaCo #344SS).
Note the small latch below the big one. It's just a bolt latch as a failsafe. If the big one opens, the gate won't swing without lowering the bolt latch.

basikly i looked for a long time at pictures of what was available, on the the net, from dealers. from there i designed and built my own. mine could easly be adapted to cary two cans, i am also adding on a basket over top of the tire/gas can right now.
