Need Shackle Advice

    10/4 I don't think I'll have any trouble waiting till you return. I should get the MC in about a week so maybe I'll let that project be first. If it's the right kind that should be an easy swap I can do myself.

    Baby John: Don't worry, you can always buy the greasable bolts separately, not that expensive, as the budget permits.

    When I had my new suppension put on, I already had greasable shackles. They didn't grease them upon instalation. So I bought a little grease gun with "special poly grease" in it--yea right--it's Silicone grease (dialectric grease). I then went on e-bay and bought several tubes of gov. surplus GE Silicone grease to refill the gun.

    I then greased them about 2 weeks after instalation. What A Shock! :shock: I could hear the poly "relax" as the grease went in. Made a big difference in the ride. :)

    So, just get a small tube of "dialectric" grease from your FLAPS and grease the bolts before you assemble them. Should work fine till you get the fancy bolts.

    BTW, you only need to grease them once or twice a year.

    I burned the old rubber bushings out of my springs. I used a propane torch and heated the spring around said bushing until it began to soften, expand and sometimes catch fire. Then I drove it out with a wooden dowel. Messy? Yea a little. Stinky? Yea, sorta. Cheap? You betcha. ;)
    Clean out the eye of the spring, lube it up and drive in the new one.
