Need Help Identifying This Flat Fender...

    I got a flat fender (CJ 2A) and I'd like to identify the year....
    SN 149555

    Since I'm new, I'm not sure this pic is going to come through...

    If you guys can tell me anything about this little 'Heep', I would be glad to hear it!

    The axles are Scout Dana-44 front and rear, and it had a Dana 300 transfer case,

    Trans is a T90A,

    Had a transplanted Ford 289 under the hood, but locked up....
    (So we scrapped it)

    Frame is in REMARKABLY good shape,

    Windshield frame is in good shape,

    Hood & Grill are fair...

    Tub is rusted beyond help, so we scrapped them.

    I'm trying to decide if I should sell the good parts and scrap the rest,
    Or try and rebuild this thing....

    Opinions?

    I'd rebuild it. The tub does not look athat bad. At least better than some.

    At least the bones sound good.

    I think that is a 3a windshield. A 2a windshield is 2 piece.

    Looks to be a M38 windshield frame. There is only one picture to look at but I assume that it is a 2a or 3a body.

    It's a 2A body cause of the sockets on the rear corners for the rear soft top bows to go in to.

    Ummm, not a good picture but I don't see the spring "outboarded". Jeep have a 27.5 center spring to center spring, scouts are 31.5. This doesn't mean they weren't cut down. The back is similar, not a good picture but looks offset? Old Scouts had offset D44s but they were the tapped axle in pre 69ish scouts.

    Unless it's a 1980 scout D300, it won't bolt up to the Xfer case without an adapter. I'm also thinking the scout D300 would bolt up but is a 10 spline and the trans would be 6 spline. Also if the rear is offset, again bad picture for telling, most likely the xfer is a D18. I've seen center outputs with offset rearends but in SWB rigs, not recommended.


    Looks like a 3a windshield, this is a nice upgrade and about a $4-500 part.

    If all you need is a body, they can be had for a reasonable price.

    The front tie rod does look scout, has the nice bend in it.

    X2 on the M38 W/S frame. I don't recall '3A W/S frames having the two vertical straps on them.

    I thought that the soft top bow sockets carried all the way over to the early CJ-5's. My '58 CJ-3B has them.

    I think I'm going to part it out...
    I'm 90% sure it's an '80 Scout axles and transfer case from what I've read...
    'Texas 5' bolt pattern, solid mount shifter arm (no tube like the Dana 20 had) but this is the only D-300 I've seen without an aluminum output housing...

    I'm REAL GOOD with gears and wires, but I'm kind of new to this transfer case stuff...

    If anyone can help out with the transfer case 'Issues', I'd sure be thankful!

    I've got a set of narrow CJ axles on the rack here,
    So I'm thinking about putting them in and keeping the scout axles for something else...

    Now you guys are REALLY making me want a Flat Fender in the worst way!!!

    My 3A aftermarket windshield frame had the two upright brackets.

    A 3A windshield has a opening vent in the middle - the M38 has the vent closed with the two straps.

    A 2a tub should have brackets for top bows.

    those tied together front shackles should act like a sway bar right? that might not be such a bad idea

    Scout 2's came stock that way. The shackles had a flange that a spring steel plate bolted to in between the two sides to act like an anti-sway bar. Pretty effective really but let to cracks in the shackle mounts and frame under hard use.

    More pictures would help a lot.
    Three tow bar set ups, or some funky gem pole mounts and 1 tow bar mount?
    An empty case of beer bottles works better than that tall cooler for a seat, depending on the time of day.

    I have a Dana 30 from a '79 Heep, wonder if I should try and rebuild this thing or not...
    I don't have steering knuckles or brakes, and I don't have the CJ width rear axle...
