That moment when you say "why didn't I get a repro tub"



Another part I need that no one makes

 

Sand blast, straighten up the best you can. The pieces will not be seen once everything is together.

 

Somebody hacked that part of my tub out to make room for headers or something, I'm kinda bummed but figure I'll fab something up later even tho it won't have the eggplant shapes in it.

 

why not make em(those eggplant shapes) your self?

 

Today i removed one of the cowl supports.



It was a pain in the butt but it was done for good reason as you can see




Also replaced a rusted section of floor






I think part of my frustration is I try to get a "bondo free" seam so I weld, grind, weld , grind until the sheet metal is so thin i have to cut it out and redo. Being anal is a curse

Tomorrow I'm going to sand blast the support and weld in a new pc on the bottom

 

Use this stuff to get into hard to reach places to rust proof, should flow between two pieces of metal. It flows like water but flashes fast. Use gloves, face shield and long sleeves, clothes you can throw away when done.

 

this is nearly impossible not impossible but nearly,the factory tolerances were something like 1/4 to 1/2 an inch don't beat yourself up.for bondo free a tig welder is a better choice.

 

Are they hard to use vs a mig? Thoughts on this

How you sandblast during a blizzard



After sandblasting I hit it with rust neutralizer after it dries some weld thru primer

 

Personally I don’t tig sheet metal I use 023 wire and co2 argon mixed gas with as little heat and wire I can get away with skipping around on the seam helps a lot with warpage and I do a lot of planshing with the hammer and dolly most everything needs just a skim o mud for smooth finish. The practice you are getting now is priceless.

 

Very nice work! I removed the lower firewall panel (with the three ovals) from my replacement tub. My plan was to modify it (for steering conversion reasons) and reinstall it. I could probably just make something from scratch (thinking maybe a mirror image of the passenger side). If you would like the panel let me know-

I was able to lift the tabs on the cage nuts and get the nuts with the broken studs out. Need to get square nuts.



Tired of grinding going to move some snow with the kubota

 

I'm glad you're documenting how to deal with the cage nuts. While I'm sure mcmaster has the right stuff, I was scratching my head on the right way to fix them. Your project is looking great, keep up the good work!

 

pretty easy as long as the broken stud is flush with the nut, either drill it out or I used a Dremel to grind it flush

This I plan on running a cutoff wheel around to get a good butt joint. I would rather put a flange on it but my flange tool won't do 18 guage
