Pretty much everything other than cowl and 2 sides are shot. Everything in between needs to be replaced and I can buy all those parts a lot cheaper than getting a new tub. Someone here actually suggested it and it made sense. There is just too much hidden rust and after it was apart it was much easier to work on and get all the rust repaired. I'm going to get the cowl and sides repaired then start putting it together with the new parts from Classic Enterprises - Restoration, Reproduction Parts for Studebaker, Jeep & Ford I'll use the chassis as a jig

The tub I'm replacing is no worse than what you are fixing. I'm impressed. Makes me think I might can save the tub. At least for a CJ trailer to pull behind the CJ.

Slowly but surely I will get my pictures back up thanks to photobuckets BS. For now I decided to get my gas tank piped since 2 hoses in a gas can will not be a good thing if my fire company had to put my shop fire out. Not good since im a firefighter. So im going to just strap it to the frame for now. So they dont make a repro gas tank for the V6 So there is no sending unit with a return line like the original available. It pains me not to be original but for now I put one of these in the top of the tank for the return line

I put a plastic paint gun liner under where I had to drill the hole to catch the metal

It's a bit large but it will get the job done

For the bottom of the tank feed line and drain I used the gold Teflon which is made for gasoline

For the drain I just used a bolt and washer, it was a bit longer than needed so I tried to get the Teflon on only the thread that won't be extended inside the tank

Yeah, I'm running into the return line dilemma also. Only I will have to both modify my pickup and add a return line. I'm going to be running a diesel and need a full 3/8" pickup line and my return has to be below the surface of the fuel and away from the pickup to keep from getting air bubbles in the pickup.

I took my old tank to the radiator shop to see if they could repair it. They didn't think so as the rusted through area was near the seam, but they were pretty confident they could move the return fitting from my old tank to the new one, if I recall.

Yes. Apparently they don't make a repro tank with the ring lock for the sending unit

    Copy.

I bought an aftermarket tank, but mine goes under the rear frame...I had absolutely no issues. You're right...They need to make one for yours.

I got a new tank, had a friend cut the old locking ring out and weld it in the new tank.

John: As you know, I also have a 67'. The tank is original and does not have a locking ring. The only addition to the standard Early CJ underseat tank is the vapor return fitting.

Maybe I can save the trouble of someone needing to get a photo of an original tank without the locking ring. Mine is a '66, not a '67 though.

    My new tank:

My original (I believe, came with the Jeep) '66 V6 tank with return fitting and non-locking sender hole:

    The sender itself:
