    Rubicon prep continues

Finished the gears in front axle. Needed a case spreader to get it out :susp:

I'm getting older and remembering Tcase shift patterns is getting harder so this went on

The sticker came with two smileys, spare tire brake light and windshield seemed appropriate

And got a shift knob since I stole my old one for the twin stick.

Even tho the Jeep and I are still not on speaking terms I'm pressing on

Made a plate to mount the winch, which I painted and made all sexy but didn't take a pic. I have 1/2" plate on the outside of the frame horns, PO nicely welded them on. I decided to just drill and tap the plate to hold the 90 degree angle pieces.

This mount is overkill and a bit on the heavy side.

Got the winch mounted and started making progress on the hole for the cable and installing the fair lead.

Just need to take the cut off wheel and connect the holes, to make a... hole. Then mount the fair lead and go get stuck.

And previously there was some concern over the bend I put in my tie rod to clear my power steering gear. After a little testing it was a valid concern. So I plated it like so, tests are good now.

After driving this thing a bunch more and listening to the noise I've become 88.3% certain my noise is from the Tcase. Picked up this Dana 18 from @Jeepsterjim

It has very little wear on the shafts and gears so expecting this to be a major improvement over my totally worn out sloppy one.

And rebuilt the insides and stripped all the funk and debauchery off.

    Ready for paint

Final assembly with shims and correct end play

And installed it. But I don't have any oil and am too tired to go get some so there's always tomorrow for a test drive.

Glad the X-fer was in decent condition. It's hard to know until tearing them apart.

Well, I still haven't put oil in the transfer case... but I did drive it from the driveway into the garage. At 0.36mph, over a whopping 11' backwards and 13' forwards it was flawless, no vibrations, no shakes, no noises .

At this point I don't know when I'll have time to revisit it. My Dad moved into my place and needs 24/7 care so for the foreseeable future I'm in a non Jeep stage of life. Luckily my Dad is improving, slowly, but definite improvement. After the stroke he is learning to walk all over again and has even made a few unstable passes across the living room with just the assistance of a cane (and me preventing a couple spectacular crashes). That's a huge improvement from a month ago, even holding on to something and standing up was nearly impossible.

I understand. Hope your dad gets better. We went through all of that that with my grandfather.

Yep, family first. Good to hear your dads improving.
You'll get at the JEEP again when the times right.
