    Hi folks!
Has anyone installed an MSD Ignition system on an F134 engine with an electronic distributor telling me what is required for it to work?
    Thanks for your comments

You can run the MSD 6A module with an electronic distributor, no problem. The MSD supports two kinds of triggering, a magnetic trigger (variable reluctance or VR) or a points trigger. There's no VR distributor available for the F134 AFAIK, but you could put the Pertronix coil trigger into the points connection on the MSD and it would work. Suggest you read and understand the MSD instructions - that will help you.

Thank you very much for your quick response. Ask in the forum for two reasons: one apart from the jeep, I have a car with a mitsubishi engine with MSD 6A system that the engine works well with a platinum ignition (I think it is the same as you say about activating points, it is that I am not expert on the subject but I'm talking about the old system of distributors). When we make an electronic ignition available in the market, (of magnetic activation I believe as you define it) the engine does not start. A local technician told me that it was that I needed to buy an additional part in MSD, but he did not tell me which, if it will be the resistance or a signal corrector or which one that MSD has. On the other hand, I asked the question in the store that I bought the Omix-Ada brand electronic ignition distributor for my F134 engine, about whether it can be installed with MSD and answered that it is not compatible, so I wanted another opinion before doing the purchase. I have asked in the technical support of MSD but they have not answered or they answer me that I installed it with the old distributor of the F134, the bad thing is that I no longer have that distributor.

A crank trigger wheel might also be an option for ya. MSD makes a few diff styles if I remember right.

You don't need a magnetic trigger to run the MSD. Any coil trigger will power it. The OP is making this complicated, and it isn't. You send the coil trigger (the actual wire that goes from the distributor to the coil, whether it's points, Pertronix, Omix, whatever) to the MSD module, and the MSD module controls the coil. An on/off signal from the distributor is all you need.

As I recall, this is described in the instructions from MSD. You can find these at the Summit Racing site, or at MSD ... they may have a version in Spanish too.

Someone with that security is just what I needed to be sure of making the purchase.
I have asked at summit but they have not answered me, the same on the MSD page, I have obtained answers from people who have bought the product but have not installed it with an omix ada distributor and since the manufacturer of omix ada did answer me saying that you couldn't do it made me doubt.

    Thank you
Post data: attached image of when I asked if I could use it with the distributor and they said no, although everyone has told me that MSD can be installed with any distributor

I suppose there could be something odd about the Omix-Ada distributor that prevents it from driving the MSD. I can't imagine anything though. It seems much more likely that the Rugged Ridge person does not understand the MSD, and is thinking you want to use the Omix-Ada distributor with the magnetic pickup connection.

    upload_2020-5-8_20-1-14.png

"Electronic ignition amplifier output" - this is the wire from the Omix-Ada distributor to the coil, where the breaker points from the original distributor would connect.

JMO - I would avoid anything from Omix-Ada. Poorly made parts, typically. Bad quality. The better route would be to obtain a replacement points distributor, and fit it with the Pertronix module . Or just run the MSD from the points distributor. The points will last a very, very long time when used with the MSD module.

Realize you are doing something that the supplier of your distributor says you cannot do. I think it will be fine, but I can't guarantee it. You'll just have to try it.

I really appreciate all the advice and guidance that I am getting in this forum.
Tim, I am very grateful that you understand and clarify my doubt, as I commented previously in the other car that I have with an MSD system that uses an old distributor, works with that white wire that you indicate in the box. When replacing it with another type of distributor try to connect it with the violet and green wires but I could not start the engine with the MSD system, only if I disconnected the MSD system did the spark plugs come.
So I was asking if you required MSD 8910 Manual Trans Mount, MSD 8920 Magnetic Pickup Tachometer Adapter, MSD 8509 Magnetic Signal Stabilize or MSD 8214 Ballast Coil Resistor. I have read the MSD catalogs and instructions but I cannot understand when these parts are required and when not to compare with my distributor and see if I require them.
As you say: I will follow the advice of trying to make the connection or get the original distributor of the F134 engine.
I have attached a photo of my current distributor that I also see as normal that I should work with MSD

    Thanks a lot

Hi Claudio - your reply made me curious about the MSD part numbers you included. You and anyone else reading here may find this interesting.

MSD 8910 - MSD Non-Current-Limited Ignition Tachometer Adapter

    upload_2020-5-9_11-53-38.png

This is a signal conditioner used with the white wire connection, but only for specific cases. It does not change the MSD spark triggering. Instead it conditions the trigger signals so that specific tachometers or fuel injection systems will work. If you have a tachometer or fuel injection that connects to the coil signal (white wire connection) and they stop working when you connect the MSD module, this addition should fix it.

    upload_2020-5-9_12-33-8.png

This device connects to the dedicated tachometer output of the MSD module and conditions that signal to work with the tachometer. If you are using the magnetic trigger connection of the MSD module and your tachometer will not work with the MSD module tachometer connection, you can add this module and it should work.

MSD 8509 - "Magnetic Signal Stabilizer"

    upload_2020-5-9_12-38-34.png
I understand what this module does, but I don't understand why you would ever need it. Normally the MSD module accepts either the points signal or a magnetic trigger signal. The magnetic signal is an industry standard, using a physical principle called "variable reluctance" (VR). This module takes that VR signal (which should be fine to connect directly to the MSD module) and converts it to a points signal. This device should be a duplicate of what's already contained in the MSD module. Likely there are some special situations where this is needed, but I don't know what they would be.

    MSD 8214 - Ballast Resistor

This is a ballast resistor, same as what you can buy for half the price from an auto parts store.

I am really learning a lot from this Forum. I am very grateful to FinoCJ who was the one who took a publication I made earlier in the OWF on horizontal pieces on the spring hangers, and he shared it here, later he gave me the link and so I met this forum. Cj6 Spring Hanger Oddity

Tim, I thank you for the time you have taken to explain all these principles of operation and installation, it seems that of the pieces that I found in the catalog the only two that I could use in my case are MSD 8509 - "Magnetic Signal Stabilizer" and the MSD 8214 - Ballast Resistor since they are the ones that are not clear when they are required and when they are not. The resistance is not clear to me if I buy the MSD with the MSD coil, I think it should not have resistance but I do not understand either in which cases it has resistance. For example, when buying the Omix Ada distributor, also buy the coil suitable for the distributor that does not have external resistance. I would think the MSD is the same if I buy the unit and the coil.
