    grrrr.

Ordered a 9510 kit from moser via summit. It came incomplete, no outer seals as indicated(well, ups destroyed envelope, so it came partially complete once).

    http://www.moserengineering.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=9510

Returned, ordered again. No seals again. (Drop shop from moser both times).

    Needing outer seals.

Fyi, they changed to,an skf bearing (not needing a separate race)from a timkin, no more angled race, but have missed the outer seal 2x when shipping.

Anyone have an idea what they are? I have one soaking in degreaser tonight, but it doesn't look to have any numbers or logos...

Sometimes the part # for the seal is molded into the rubber lip. Get your magnifing glass out.

    OK,

Quick call to Moser, great guy on the phone.

No idea what the individual seal is (part of the kit per se), so wasn't able to provide me a part number, brand or otherwise.

Since it drop-shipped from Moser on an order from Summit, I have to call Summit to have them work it from the other direction to get me the seals...

Whelp, through the next hoop and dialing Summit.

So they are willing to send you replacement seals if Summit asks for them?

This sounds like bureaucratic BS to me... they could straighten it out. It's their product, not Summit's. Tell them you will FAX them proof of purchase.

<edit> On second thought, I should not butt in. Sounds like the guy at Mouser is trying to straighten it out through channels. If something is missing from the kit, a shipping claim should be made.

If it was order thru Summit and then drop shipped by Moser...
It's Moser's deal...crappy packaging in the first place.

Yeah, I concur. Guy at Moser 'could' have fixed it, but it was a drop order, so he said I needed to go up the order chain. I'm calling summit after work. will be passing pictures to them if needed.

Funny in the sense that I ordered and they sent me two sets (a set was bearings, races, seals and press block x2), so that's 4 bearings, 4 seals, 4 press blocks, (and potentially 4 races if they'd not changed to a SKF / different bearing that is not an angled race like the former timken set10).

wierd and funny haha only because now I've made two separate orders and received zilch on the seals. FWIW: the new SKF bearings are not sealed, just well packed with pre-lube and will leak like a sieve.

So, reading more, timkin set10 is standard as are the replacements from others. There are two kinds, one with an angled race, separate, and one with an integral race.

found some info on IH d44 info, relating the set10, folks suggest the National 9912 seal. Local flaps has these supposedly. Will take my used one to double check.

Gotta dig out my FSM and read on axle bearing end play, and what tolerances are... If I have no tapered bearings (and related race) just a roller bearing unit designed to support loads in the pure vertical, it seems near zero end play to keep in-and-out (thrust) motion minimized once bolted together might be important? More reading needed.

See some guy up in Pahrump, NV has posted some interesting stuff on end play and d44 IH parts, but some seems like snake oil...

seal I just removed from degreaser is unmarked, but the fine print in the rubber is s-7441 and across from that is 1-16. there's no other markings I can find, but looks a lot like the National 9912.

A trip to the local FLAPS, got two 9912 seals... perfect match...

back in business, will settle up the other stuff with Summit later (or I'll have a couple extra seals on hand which isn't bad either).

    little investigation:
funny thing: S-7441 is imprinted in the rubber of the new National 9912 seals (1-14 not 1-16 though). Life is looking up...

Now I have to pull the driveshaft yoke off the pinion so I can swap the pinion seal and I'm off and to the races, er, at least one part of the project done.
