    Hi everyone,
As I am progressing with my 1957 CJ5 restoration I found the radiator being taller than the shroud on it. I though my radiator might have been changed by POs. So I asked two other jeep owners about the radiator on their 1955 and 1956 jeeps. To my surprise they also have the same Modine 1A5572 radiators.
Particularly they are all Export CJ5s, two located in Mexico and one in Colombia.

    All radiators seem period correct.

Are these Modine radiators original to all CJ5? My 1959 Part List Manual calls for Harrison radiators instead.
What radiator do you have in your jeeps?
    Thanks for your comments.

The part number given in 1955 CJ5 parts list is 908027 in the 1959 parts list it shows part number
    908028.
Not sure what that difference may represent but it nowhere stated either of them to be Harrison. However the CJ3B was still equipped with Harrison at that time and it was used until 1965 but only on the 3B’s.
In 1965 the 3B finally switched over to Modine.
    I do have a 1965 NOS Modine radiator for a 3B.
The only notable difference between a 3B and a CJ5 Modine is the location of the top tank inlet.
Those are all 7psi as 14 psi was not used on CJ’s prior to Dauntless engines.

Hi Ken, thanks for you prompt reply. You are absolutely right. 1959 PLM calls for Harrison's only on CJ3B. 908028 radiator assembly for CJ5 and CJ6 without any brand.

So Modine radiators can be factory correct for 1955/57's? It doesn't seem a coincidence that 3 jeeps I found have Modine radiators in that period.

I am not the authority here but I highly suspect that all early cj5’s used Modine exclusively.
The universal parts lists for later CJ-5’s with F134 suggest a radiator change that looks to have been implemented about the 1962 model year.
From my limited exposure I have noticed those were also all of Modine manufacture.
And like I said Modine also supplied 3 different versions for the Dauntless V-6 universal jeeps.
One was a 17” wide Modine and two at 22” wide with one of those having extra cooling capacity. (an extra row of cells)

I've seen one VERY early CJ5 with the same radiator than M38A1 jeeps, which make sense.
Thanks Ken, you might not be the authority but your knowledge is unique!.

Any other early cj5 owner how can share some pictures of their jeep radiator?
    Thanks

Two core rads were standard, three core as found in the M38A1 were optional.

Having so many Jeep publications available to me I at times am able to cross reference facts and effectively read between the lines.
In this case I see that there are two related changes that occur around/about the 1962 timeline.
A new radiator number was issued which means some change had occurred from previous radiators for the cj-5 134 applications.
A new 13 pound radiator cap number emerges during this same time frame which directly suggests that all radiators thereafter were of construction to handle an increase of pressure going from 7 to 13 psi.

Here’s a pic of my nos 1965 modine for cj3b.

My very original 1956 CJ5 serial # 29,0xx spent most of it's life in Calif.
    It's radiator is marked:
    1A5572
    MODINE
    P 9 55

Thank you very much! This is another very good confirmation that those Modine radiators are factory correct.

It’s obvious to me that Modine #1A5572 equates to Jeep part number 908027 . 908027 is the sole number given in the 1955 cj-5 universal parts list.(UPL)
The radiator part #908028 found in 1959 UPL is obviously dated to the exact same timeline as the 1955 number. So there is either a number error in one of those UPL’s or there were two different radiators for these earliest cj-5’s.
In this case I find no options nor HD version being noted. So I suspect there was actually only one CJ-5 radiator available prior to 1962 and there is perhaps a human error found in one of those UPL’s which certainly is not unheard of.

That's a valid conclusion Ken. I haven't inspected my radiator to look for other numbers that would bring more clarity to this topic. I will take a look at the M38A1 parts list manual to see what is the part number in that model. As mentioned above, I found a different radiator in a VERY early CJ5 which is just like the one found in M38A1 jeeps. And they are not Modine. I am wondering if 1955 UPL 908027 is actually that early radiator, and 908028 is the part number for Modine #1A5572.

The radiator seem above certainly looks like it’s a Harrison to me. Now I’m thinking that is part # 908027 as was provided in the 1955 UPL.
And “very” shortly thereafter it was replaced with # 908028 Modine.
Jeep may have sourced some of the already existing military Harrisons prior to getting their Modine stock into production. That would certainly explain those two part numbers being so close.

    [edited to include date]
Just checked SNL G-758 M38A1 Parts List. Issue September 1956

    -Group 05 Cooling System. 3
    --0501 Radiator
    Manufacturer part No. WO-805825

No reference to part # 908027.

But I guess we are getting closer.

Yes, 805825 begins around the 1952 timeline where as 908027 begins around the 1955 timeline.

Stumbled across this in this thread-

    Old 311

This is a 3 core rad as the two core ones have a distinctly different tank & are thinner so consequently had a felt seal between the top & the grill. I have a couple of the two core versions one of which came out of a '59 CJ6.
