Metal Cutting Blade

There is a new metal cutting blade out. This fastener supply house I go to has them, they can not keep them in stock. I bought one, sales man told me when using it, let the blade work, do not force it or it will wear out faster.

 

I gotta try one.

 

They work very well... but high speed kills them. Yes, let the blade do the work and wear a face shield. I have pulled out steel splinter from my face many times. Also either use a real steel saw or a worm drive, but be aware that the chips are going to get sucked in and kill your motor. I know al these things from experience.

 

New, these things have been out in one form or another for 25 years.

 

I use a bandsaw in either horizontal or vertical orientation I have a small table that fits on mine when in vertical. My go to blades are Olson Bi Metal and depending on how thick either 14t or 18t. I have used my saw to cut Titanium as well as almost every high end Stainless tool steel (I used to be a Custom Knifemaker). I have used my table saw to cut aluminum a few times then its a fine tooth carbide blade.

 

How high?
Like an angle grinder? But the packaging pictures one.

How about a 10" miter saw (originally a woodworking saw)?

 

I was just on there web page and Interesting enough they run those at fairly High RPM........anywhere from 6600-8400 and yes that is angle grinder territory...............

Personally I like the cold carbide chop saws...........

 

Clearly an angle grinder with a 7" blade is a terrible idea but great for youtube humor. High speed to me, means a regular circular saw without the RPM drop a worm drive provides. Even at that speed its a bit too fast, so you want to be gentle or you will overheat the teeth and they will disintegrate. They will anyway. I would try and run one in an old 10" miter saw if you built up the table to allow a full cut with the smaller blade. Just remember this expensive blade is a consumable item so bid the job or project accordingly.

Amana makes a blade for aluminum for table saws/radial arm saws and mitre boxes. I used one occasionally for formica work and other stuff as the blade is a bit thicker and runs a bit truer.

My opinion is that they are a bit over priced actually for the longevity of the blade, at least it was for me. They will also cut stainless sheet for a bit before getting ruined.

I needed up just buying big packs of good 4.5 inch cut off wheels after i ruined one worm drive. YMMV.

 

They are for much lower rpm, are they not?

 

I ask, because they offer 10" blades, and other diameters also.

 

Max 1600 RPM..............this is a 15" blade the same on the 14"
