i have a line on a manual steering gear from and ih scout. it has trw cast on the case, three hole mount and works extremely like a saginaw manual.

large pitman and 6 or 7 turns lock to lock.

does anyone know anything about this box? i may be able to get it at extremely low cost i.e. free.

You can always modify things to account for a good price... I don't have experience with this box, but would like to know as well as my supply of manual boxes has dried up. Right now I am forced to put power boxes on, but I don't hook up the belt to the pump. Gives me close to the same feel as the manual, just would like to get the space back.

There used to be a story on using this style box on Jeep Wire site. Haven't been able to find it lately, maybe somewone else here has seen it and saved it. Anyway the guy had a flatfender and used this box it mounted on the top of frame with the pitman on the ouside of the frame. He did this because of a pto winch he had on the front so it woulnd't interfer with the shaft. I picked one off a late model Nissan 2wd pickup that looks to hookup in the same manner. Hope to try it on my flatfender, but thats several projects to finish from now.

my friend said i could have it. so i'll strip it off with as much harware as i can carry. eg the rods mounting and it's got disks on the front. ih scout about '75 im guessing.

im using a smaller than stock steering wheel with the column from a cherokee 87. so the 6.5 or 7 turns lock to lock will help that a lot. im thinkin' it will anyway. practice and theory dont always match. ;)
