    hello!

I am looking to replace my clutch before I put the engine back in...

can anyone suggest one to go with the following:

    AMC 360 (30 over)
    T-150 (3 speed)
    Dana 20

not being used for tree climbing or havoc wreaking (except in urban areas)

thanks and have a GREAT weekend everyone!!

The clutch for a 304 is smaller (10.5") than for the 360/401 (11"). So you can buy the right clutch kit for your transmission, and it will come with the smaller disk and cover. Or youcan buy a clutch kit for a 360 Cherokee/Wagoneer, and it will have the 11" disk and cover but probably the wrong pilot bushing and T/O bearing (different transmission, different bell - not T-150).

If it were for me, I'd buy a OEM replacement disk and cover for a Cherokee and add the correct parts to work with the T-150.

    good idea timgr...

I didn't know you could buy the pieces separately...

disk and plate for the 360 and a T/O and Pilot for the 304... (if I read it right)

    thanks!

Hum, for myself when i swapped my 304 for my 360 i just use the flywheel/pressure plate and friction disq from the 304. i run the t18 but i never experience any slip in the clutch since the two year i have this engine.

    HEY johneyboy!

    long time no talk!!

    hows that project coming??

    and thanks for the input...

I'm sure i'll take mine in with me (as well as measuring it, too) to make sure everything is the same...

I never had slipping either, but I figure since im in there... might as well save the trouble further down the line

Both sizes of cover will bolt to either flywheel. Back in the day, the 11" clutch was the hot setup for 304s. The 304 clutch would be fine, but you may as well get the premium setup. :D

You do realize the 304 and 360 are balanced completely different and require either the correct flywheel or balanced to match, right?

If you decide on a Centerforce clutch you can contact them and they can make up a kit with the correct pieces for your application.

i pulled out the one that was in it (from my parts bin)... the flywheel has some surface rust and it had the 10.5" plate before...

the flywheel looks pretty good to me, i figure i can hit it with a roloc and knock off the rust... no gouges or bluing... it almost looks new... i'll post up a pic tomorrow...

i DID notice that putting an 11" might be a stretch, but then i noticed 6 more holes (threaded same size as others) that i thought to myself... 'those must be the cover mount holes for the 11 incher'...

a roloc on it to knock off the rust should be ok, right?

this is going to sound silly... i measured the spline... 1.065" = 1 1/16, 10-spline...

ordering a clutch for a 1 1/16 spline WILL fit right?

learning drilling/tapping/nuts/bolts etc, has made me question fitments a LOT more closely... a 1/16th peg will NOT fit in a 1/16 hole

thanks for all the input everyone...

now i have to watch KC try to capitalize on 3 straight walks in the top of the 9th in a tie game

    GO ROYALS!!!

I went with a LUC clutch on my 360 and T18...no problems, including some occasional intense off road. No slippage.

LuK, not LUC. Amazon has a pretty good price on a LuK kit for a 360 Cherokee - http://www.amazon.com/LuK-01-025-Cl...&newCar=1&s=automotive&vehicleType=automotive

Sachs is good too. Valejo and ACDelco would likely be fine as well.

This is the LuK kit for a '76 304 CJ -

See the different throwout bearing, and it's a diaphragm type rather than a Borg&Beck. This one would likely have a softer clutch pedal and possibly a better feel, and would work fine. And you wouldn't need any extra parts. Up to you.

Depends on the grit. A coarse grit Roloc in a die grinder can be very aggressive. A Roloc bristle disk would probably be ok - would not gouge the flywheel.

The professional thing to do is to have the flywheel surfaced at your local automotive machine shop. You sure it's a 360 flywheel and not a 304 flywheel? They are different.

if it ran ok when i took it out, and havent mixed it up with anything (i only have the one) wouldnt it make it ok?

i still plan to look for a number, for my records
