When I got my '59 CJ5, there were clear glass lens on the front turn signal lights. And, there were two, not matching, clear glass lens light (back-up?) above the tail lights. There is no "switch" on the transmission for back-up. It must of been one of numerous toggle switches on the dash.

Of the 4 lens, ony two match (glass and mounting rings).

Question for the gang: Were the front turn lights clear? If not, what would be correct? And, What color?

The front turn signals on my '65 CJ6 are amber. Not certian that they are original, but appear to be. Mine does not have anything for backup lights. For what it's worth I will attach pics of my front turn signals. Someone here will probably have more details on what exactly would have been original on your '59.

'59 would have clear front turn signals.

    Backup lights were added.

Not sure when the turn signals changed to amber, but it was by '64.

Thanks guys. The guts of these lights are really ugly. If I can clean em up, they will get amber bulbs.

I believe '63 was the last year for the clear glass lenses. At least my brother's '63 has them...

I guess this means mine aren't stock. They came with the Jeep, a '56, and were pretty hammered. This was after a couple hours of cleaning and polishing. They fit in the holes in the grill very well.

My 62 has clear, no backup lights...nothing to hook them up to. I am going to rig a spot light out back and use a toggle.
