I am running stock 10 pack leaf springs on my CJ. Believe it or not when I had the Jeep restored 25 years ago I wanted all oem so I had the leaf springs made custom... well.. they don't ride so well. Terrible in fact...

I want to buy a Skyjacker lift kit. My Jeep seems to sit pretty high right now as it is(I'll measure my bumper height later). I am leaning toward what they call the 3.5 / 4 inch lift...

Any reason not to do the bigger lift? Guessing pitman arm and brake lines.. anything else?

Needing a stepladder to get in the Jeep? Driveshaft angle. High COG. Goofy looking (JMO). I don't think you gain anything with more than a couple of inches of lift. I'd say you're better off to cut if you want bigger tires.

I have to agree with timgr. I have a 2.5 lift and longer shackles on my 75. I am running 33's with out any trouble. I can still get in/out pretty easy. Not so much for my wife at 5'4''.

What size tires are you running? And/or what size tires do you want to run?

    Thnx for the input!

Forgot to mention that I am running 1.5 inch extended shackles...

let me measure the height and see how mine compares to others. I am running 33's and that size is perfect for me. I am just trying to get a better ride and a nice stance.

A 2.5” lift is plenty for 33s, IMO.

As for stance, I wasn’t super happy with the forward rake with a 2.5” rancho lift. It actually looks worse than it is because of the height of the rear wheelwells, so I installed slightly longer shackles upfront to compensate.

I had the same issue with the BDS 2.5" springs on my '17. I had to run 1" longer shackles up front to sit level.

You could start by trading in those Swampers for virtually anything else. :)

Great idea! The Swampers are being replaced with Fuel 33/12.5/17 MT's....

Why a 4 inch lift? I like the look of a lifted Jeep!

My member pic is 2.5 Rough Country lift with .75 in shackle lift with a glass tub so it rides every bit of the 3.25 and 33" Goodyear tires. It is a mighty step to climb in and I have to hoist myself in using the the cage. I have Corbeau suspension seats which softens the ride ALOT. Swampers hurt my @$$ just to look at.

My front bumper is currently at exactly 28 inches at the top of the stock bumper. The rear is at 27 inches at the top of the very outside of the rear frame.

I have a shackle lift. The shackles are 5 inches from center of bolt to center of bolt.

She is sitting on 33/12.5 Swampers…

Will my Jeep be higher or lower with the 2.5 springs?

Thanks for all of the input!!!! I really appreciate it!

Oh… I have LOVED my Super Swampers for 30 years now! They ride like crap but they are just so damn cool! They are being replaced as we speak.

The Swampers and American Racing AR23’s will be for sale for off road use due to the age fyi…

a shackle will provide a lift that is 50% of the increase in length. So going from a stock shackle (which is about 3” going off memory) to a 5” shackle is a 2” difference and therefore you currently have about a 1” lift.

going back to stock shackles with 2.5” lift springs should result in your Jeep being 1.5” taller than 5” shackles with stock springs.

But .. I am not sure that my 'stock' springs which are a 10 leaf pack are the same height as other 'stock' springs.

What is anyone else's bumper height with stock or with a 2 or 4 inch lift (relative to my tire height of 33in of course).

    I have A 1974 jeep cj5 with 2-1/2" lift.

I had to have Tom Woods Build A CV Drive Shaft .

And Tilt The Pinion Up , reweld the spring perches .

My rear spring shackles are stock length .

For reference on my early CJ5s:

1969 with ProComp 2.5" springs, stock shackles, and 31" tires:
    • 25 1/2" to the top of the front bumper
    • 26" to the top of the rear bumper (not measured in the center dip)

1971 with BDS 2.5" springs, 1" longer shackles in front and 32" tires:
    • 25 1/2" to the top of the front bumper
    • 26" to the top of the rear bumper (not measured in the center dip)

So they sit exactly the same even though the BDS sprung Jeep has 1" bigger tires and 1" longer shackles in front.

From my measurements and your larger tires, I would guess 2.5" springs and stock shackles would sit slightly lower than your current setup. But not much.

Oops- I neglected to mention that I also had to do a Woods CV rear shaft. Great product!

I need to order some new leaf springs :)

Would a couple of y'all mind measuring your front / rear bumper height and also give me specs (lift / tires / shackles)?

    Thnx!
