header.jpeg (2).jpg fhead.jpeg (2).jpg header.jpeg (2).jpg fhead.jpeg (2).jpg I have been wanting a 4cyl header for a while, no model number or MFR p/n on it anywhere. Other than Clifford does anyone know of any other company that made headers for a F head. Looks to be in good condition with minor mounting flange warp. Bet it will give me a huge horsepower boost!! Maybe from 72 hp to 73. Figured I needed to burn thru a bit of stimulus $$. Will update with pics as soon as my phone talks to my computer. dang google drive is lagging bad today

Post pics if ya have one

I’ve got one, but it’s homemade.

That doesn’t look like the Clifford I had on mine. Could you show a side view?

I had to dig through some old pictures.
Like I said, it’s homemade. I built it to fit in my particular space 20 years ago.

That whole engine was an experiment. The carb was a Rochester 2g that I believe was for an even fire. It was $20 in a FLAP’s discount bin. I made a 2:1 adapter for it and ported the dickens out of the intake ports. The exhaust ports were port-matched to the headers, the combustion chambers were optimized, and the head was shaved .125” for 10:1 compression. I had a simple flow bench set up with a shop vac to test any modifications for air flow changes. The biggest change was opening up the exhaust ports. BUT... this change was only a real benefit in the higher rpms. Poor exhaust flow in the block is the main reason these engines start to fall on their face around 3200rpm. They work great as intended, but if any more rpms are desired, that’s the first place I’d go.

Any intake work will raise the bottom half of your torque curve. That’s not optimum for every day use. The small ports are what help give it the low-end grunt.

This one pulled hard up past 5k with a stock cam, but it didn’t have much of anything below 2k because opening up the intake volume that much made the intake velocity too slow to atomize fuel. Good racer, bad crawler.

I know a guy with a cnc plasma table... check around with your local custom fab shops. I bet someone on here could make a drawing if you need one.

Already done that. I made up a drawing but I haven’t decided if I want to have a flange cut out and then have to bend exhaust pipe or just buy a pre built unit.

If you do it yourself you can do the exhaust whistle thing, or run the primary to the rear bumper so it's tuned for 600rpm

I have two sets of F-head tube headers, but they both exit straight up through the hood!

Began installation of the header. removed the cast iron manifold and had several of the studs come out instead just the nuts, my oriellys had some dorman studs just a bit longer than the others, and an exhaust gasket, so they worked in a pinch. I had used lock nuts on the stock exhaust unit but no antiseize.:banghead: Had to remove my fuel pump to give room to get the header in place. Fired it up this afternoon with no muffler just to relive the sound of my teen years and sand drags at the local race track. Doesnt sound like a sewing machine anymore bet I gained about a hunerd horses:rofl: :dhorse:

    Resized my pics
I used part of the exhaust pipe gasket for shim material on the front and rear tubes to supprt the header flange at all bolts. Also had to rebend the throtte rod to clear the flange and adjust mixture and idle settings

Does it looks like there’s enough space to get a steering shaft between the oil pump and header tubes?
