I really have to agree with this. I still run the L4 in my 3A, with 32x11.50 swampers. It's a little slow, but with the slightly lower t90C gears I think my Jeep performs great offroad, and it has surprised me many times. I have 3 friends in the area that all run the L4, and all still like them. One friend, with a '46, built his L4...fresh rebuild, with bore job, balanced, ported/polished, and bumped the compression up by shaving the head/block. He also built his own header and intake manifold. It's no race car, but believe it has some very noticeable power gains from that...it even sounds a lot stronger. He also runs 32" tires, and it will even maintain speeds on our big Vermont hills...it's impressive for an L4.

Yup, the 225 is an incredible motor, no denying that...and they impress me too...but when a Flatty walks through a nasty trail (or even when you pull up to the gas pumps) and then someone says "wow, you're still running a L4?!!" it always puts a smile on my face.

I'm going to go with the v6... i have all but a clutch and motor mounts, and that is alot cheaper to get than rebuilding the L4. plus i'll have a little more gearing options with the sm420, dana 18 with overdrive. thanks everybody.
