I am installing new kingpin bearings in my 66 CJ5 Dana 27A axle. What is the correct torque on the bolts and should the bearings be packed with bearing grease or are they lubricated by the steering knuckle fluid ?

about 35 ftpounds. pack the bearings. also you need to check the tension might need to add/subtract shims.

As I recall you can take a fish scale (you know, one of those things taht tells the truth about the size of the fish you caught) and hook it to the steering arm on the knuckle and you should have about 16 lbs. of resistance before the knuckle starts to move. But that number is from memory and I ain't getting any younger! I think that spec is in the FSM.
