Been a goal of mine to get my rig onto some stock rims. Have had a heck of a time finding any. Ended up grabbing these locally:

All are Kelsey-Hays that i can tell. One of them is a 4.5” rim, and has a slightly different dish design. I’m going to need a spare tire, so i’m going to keep my eye’s peeled for a 4th matching rim to the 3 that are similar. Should having one 4.5 change my tire choice?

My research makes me think these are Willys wagon/truck rims?

Yeah 5" wide would be a truck/waggie rim but that's to your advantage, modern tires will fit better.

    What's your preference?

Sweet. I'm thinking about the 215x85R16, 235x85R16, or 7.50r16 sizes. I am getting conflicting/competing info about tubes vs. tubeless and Radial vs. Bias. Going to have to make some decisions based on how I'm going to be using the Jeep. Snow is not a factor, ice is not a factor, Rain-slicked streets would be a very rare experience, based on my choice to pull the Jeep out in rainy season or not (I don't even run wipers, currently)

Just normal surface streets @ 50mph or less, and off-road speeds on sand, packed dirt, gravel, rocks and occasional water crossings and mud in the winter desert. If I made a Rubicon trail run these would be the tires I'd be running.

Ocatillo plants (aka, spikey plants from HE!!) are a real concern in Anza-Borrego. I actually had an off-road trip scrubbed right at the trailhead by having one of my tires slashed by these buggers:

So a nice, thick Bias-ply like the DeeStone D503 might be the ticket.

The truck/wagon rims usually have a date stamp adjacent to the valve stem, usually between '58 and '62. Those 3 non-creased wheels are likely earlier than that. Are all 4 rims riveted? Riveted rims tend to leak air when used tubeless. Also keep in mind all these early rims have no safety beads that are typically used with tubeless tires.
The 3 could be from an early '50s pickup.

I run a 235/85/16 on 4.5 rims tubeless no issues till you air down to 3 or 4 psi. Then they slip a bead.

    Thanks Donny!
    • All four are riveted
    • All have date stamps, non-creased are '51, '52, '52 and creased is '61
    • The PO owner, John, at Border Parts assured me that I could run these tubeless, (that's what he was doing with them), but Yes, I've heard that air leaks can be an issue.
Question, will a normal tire shop be able to help me with the tube install, if I decide to go that way?

I have heard this from other folks. Definitely considering this route. Do you have a lift at all? I'm not going to be lifting mine more than .5" -1.0" due to space constraints (small garage door opening).
