So just purchased a set of hinges to try and get my doors on this hard top.

In order for the doors to fit in the curve of the door, and line with the latch catch.. the upper hinge needs to be in the position shown here:

    So I am wondering:

    1. Did the kelly and meyers hardtops use the same upper door hinge? These were meyers hinges I guess.. but I figured they would work.

    2. Should I heat and bend the upper hinge to work?

    Anything else I should try?

If the Meyer and Kelly hinges are the same, it's a coincidence. There's no reason why they should be, except that they both bolt on to the windshield and have the same purpose.

Why can't you move the Kelly half forward on the door to meet the Meyer half? It would make the door swing a little wider, but that won't matter. Much simpler than trying to bend the Meyer side. Or slice the Kelly hinge vertically and weld in an extra inch of length.

The hinge portion that is mounted to the windshield sticks out 2" at the horizontal part that matches the bottom of the door portion of the hinge. That is from the outside of the formed loop.

From pictures I've seen it appears the Meyers and Kelly hinges look quite similar but I have no idea if they indeed match.

If the top and bottom hinges don't line up I don't think it would swing properly. The should pretty much line up vertically.

Yes, you'd have to move the bottom hinge to line up.

Do you have the sheet metal that is formed to make a door jamb? Need on for each side. Also the sheet metal wraps around to the front flat side of the windshield frame, and the hinge is then bolted on over that.

I assume the picture shows the hinge half bolted to the windshield? Does it line up ok as far as the door half sitting on top of the windshield half? The issue is the pin not lining up, correct?

On second thought, move the hinge forward and add another inch to the length at the back end. Weld up the existing holes in the hinge and drill new holes in the hinge to match the door.

His Jeep shows the bottom hinge bolted to the body which I'm assuming doesn't line up with the upper hinge. If so I believe the easier option would be to take a slice out of the upper windshield frame pieces so they will match.

I have constated that all is moving a little bit and with:n::worry::p patience I can adjust my Meyer where it must be.
But at the beginning I wonder how it can fit.
In your case this is worse, I suggest you take a beer, eat, sleep and next day will be better.
Such doing, you'll avoid a lot of welding cutting breaking, at the end you'll find the SOLUTION.

Interesting. With the top pivot ahead of the bottom, I'd expect that you're lifting the door a little when you open it, so it would tend to stay shut. I should look at my set of Meyer doors to confirm...

My Kelly top measurement is 3 and 3/4" (maybe 13/16), compared to the 4" measurement Ron has for the Meyer.

if you can drop a level down from the top pin and measure to the bottom pin? the pins should line up for easy opening. curious as to how they work if they arent.

I can't wrap my head around it working without lining up, at least within reason anyway.
