So I'm out cruising around and first spot an intact MB about 100 yards off the road. The query gets a "not mine and not for sale" response, so I figure I'll try later.

So I head on down the road and lo and behold, a CJ sitting on top of a discarded Dr Pepper (remember, no period there) truck body. The guy says he'll take 9.5 bills for it and "sure, go out and have a look." I know it’s a short nose one and looks like a good candidate for something (I’m looking for a tow rig but wonder about fragility the ‘Ross’ steering system).

Anyway…the one thing that stands out on this one is the unusual light “protrudy” things just behind the hood latches. They were contoured to go with the curve of the hood and the lenses to be parallel with the side of the truck. I’ve never seen anything like them before. They were on both sides and didn’t appear to be the usual ‘field modifications” to be found on almost all older Jeeps found.

So, what was I looking at?

Are they side marker lights?, as would be found on a '69, the transition year before they ended up on the fenders. $9500 ? more than i would spend, but i'm cheap.

You are now suffering from a classic case of UWOP.

It was basically intact. the yard owner had pit it up there to keep people from pilfering parts from it.

If it was roadable it'd be worth $900 or so. Some people are fortunate to find carefully restored or completely original Jeeps just waiting for the picking (<old guy talking> "Just get it out of the barn. I bought it new to go camping 40 years ago but never did. Been sitting there all this time and I need the space"). But personally, I've seem a lot of classic tin just slowly settling into the ground because some codger is hanging onto it because someday he his going to get around to fixing it up. Right now I know of a very intact and complete Dodge WC-7 Command Car doing just that.

Further, he says it runs but the engine was something "different" from the usual Jeep engine. He didn't know it was if it was a six banger. Might be cool if it is a Buick motor 'cause I know someone with the running aluminum 215 c.i. V-8.

    BTW, what is "UWOP?"

it may depend on how late a 69 it is. some of the canadian built didn't seem to have the markers yet.
