Hello, new to the forum and happy to be here. Recently I purchased a great 1967 Jeepster Commando with the 225 Dauntless v6. Mechanically running real good and it is now time to make some performance upgrades. I started with buying an HEI distributor, and Novak headers. Once I get the exhaust going then I was gonna tune the carbs and such and do more.

Any suggestions on what exhaust system to attach to the Novak headers? Mufflers, piping?

Should I stick with the stock carburetor or does anyone know of anything better?

Any other performance upgrade suggestions highly welcomed.

    Thanks

The Rochester 2g type carb has been a proven unit on the 225's since 66 for the jeeps.

I'd agree 100% with Walt on the carb but a lot of guys seem to enjoy the 4 barrel Edelbrock. Flowmaster seems to be one of the top picks for mufflers. You'll want to stick with about a 2" pipe. A lot of guys will tell you headers, like 4 bbl carbs are highly over rated, especially for a stock engine. It really comes down to personal preference and how much you want to spend and whether you think the somewhat limited amount of performance increase you're going to gain is worth the money spent.
Being a 67 you may run into problems with the headers because of the Ross steering box.

Hey thanks for the replies guys. I really appreciate. I like your advice on the 2g carb, I rather keep it and tune it up a bit. For my exhaust though, I have already purchased the Novak Conversion headers with a 2.5" outlet. I have heard good remarks of these headers, and how they are made specially for the 225 Dauntless. If it is too much to install I can return for 100% refund. For the muffler, I'm thinking of getting a single dual-in/dual out (2.5"/2.5"). Flowmaster, maybe Dynamax. I have heard that a single muffler is better than two for these type of engines.

Again I am just guessing off of what I have researched. So many different opinions, but I really do think I am gonna stay with the stock carb and get them tuned just right. And then maybe just try to add cosmetics for look.

Any more thoughts? Anybody do anything else to get their 225 in tip top shape?

    Thanks everyone

Darn it ,I can not speak from experience yet but hear that a HEI distributor helps.

I am upgrading the 225 in Pete also. Doing it one piece at a time to absorb the costs. A DUI distributor was installed during the restore. I just completed the exhaust upgrade with Novak in frame headers (shorty, block huggers), dual 2" mandrel bent pipes to the inlet of a Flomaster 50 series, and a single 2 1/2" tailpipe. This really woke up the midrange and upper to some extent. The next step is cam, heads, and intake. Plan on a 260H cam, port match and polish heads and a new 4 barrel intake. Probably initially go with a carb with the ultimate endgame being PJIII fuel injection. I'm looking for a substantial increase in upper RPM horsepower to pull the grades in Montana and Idaho. The 225 has more low end torque than I'll ever use but just can't do the high end stuff while loaded down.

although mine is a 231 oddfire i'm running a 4bbl carb on a 2 bbl intake with an adapter plate which is 1 or almost 2" tall. with the adapter plate this gives you more fall which will give you more rpms and more time mixing. i'm running hei as well as some head work i did myself with gasket matching and porting and polishing the heads and a cam. i need to jet the carb down as it's running a little fat.

I did the HEI upgrade on my 225V6 and it really woke mine up. Highly recommend it.
