Generally the gearbox will have a metal tag under one of the cover bolts that gives the Jeep PN (ie 8xxxxx or 9xxxxx), the type of transmission (ie T-90A), and a Borg-Warner number. I very much doubt that will tell you anything about the vehicle type - other numbers off the transmission should be Warner Gear ID numbers or casting numbers, and also won't be very informative.

Pretty neat though. Has features of both the CJ-5 and the M38A1. I'd agree, post on the G503 forum, probably you'd get the best results on the M38 forum. Those guys are wild about military models, from all sources.

Are you asking something about those? Most of the military info will be found on G503 I'm afraid.

    R) You should add a few more exclamation points, as you wallow in your genius. :) Seriously, how many 606's have you seen? i've never seen one. Those picks are so cool. I wish I had one. and they had a split wind shield? Are the headlights recessed or not I can't tell in the picture.

    Junction City huh?

Doubtful it'd have recessed headlights. M38A1s weren't in production when this was made.

As for the M606, yes, I work on what is most likely an M606 but we don't have any documentation. Just lots of OD paint, some filled in holes on fenders where there would be a blackout light and military gauges. For all we know it could be just a 3B though.

One of these on the other hand, no, never seen one. It is my board, I reserve the right to use !!!!!!!!!!!!! as much as I like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! R)

Hi men, no it has not got recessed headlights, so what are we saying here that it is a french new old stock and it is older than an M38A1, and does WOF stand for Willys of France.

    Can't be older than an A1 if it's a CJ-5. A1s came before CJ-5s.

What's the G had to say about it?

:? I can't find reference to a French CJ-5. All I find is Hotchkiss and they built MB and 3B like Jeeps.

    http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/World/France.html

The only CJ-5s made overseas not in NA that I know of (disclaimer this doesn't mean they don't exist!) are the Ford made CJ-5s in Brazil and the IKA Jeeps in Argentina, this isn't one of those for sure.

*Edit There were Australian made CJ-5s as well, haven't found anything yet for Europe.

Hi G503 are having trouble as well, we have had a CJ5, M606A2/3, a Swedish military (early) Nekaf etc. OK I can live with one of these, but I would like a guess on the year if anyone can narrow it down:)

If you get the VIN off the frame we probably can. I'm guessing it'd have the VIN stamped on the frame just like any other Kaiser CJ-5 right below the battery tray/firewall on the right hand side of the Jeep.

That should be a sequential production number for it we could narrow it down.

    HI all have found some more numbers just to bore you, so here goes with the pictures;

This pic is of the rear of the chassis
    [IMG]

This one is of the front of the chassis
    [IMG]

This one shows where I found the number 410 in front of the master brake cylinder, any know what it means?

This one shows the letter D above a 4 and a 30 on the right hand side of the chassis back from the wheel
    [IMG]

Does this give anymore clues as to what it could be.

Hi Mark, I think we've (I've) told you and the folks at the G have told you it's an M606A2/3. What more do you want? I thought that pretty much nailed it. How much more specific can we get?

As for the numbers you need too look where I suggested. I didn't see the numbers in a photo or you didn't tell us what they were.

With the battery tray in the front like that it indicates pre-66 IIRC.

    Hi Sparky
Yeh I know but it's like a drug need to get to the bottom of it, but thanks all the same, just forward where you have indicated the number there is 83056, I will take it on board as an M606A2/3. And as what I want is the work finished so I can drive it again:)

Guessing it's a '65? WAG from the battery tray placement not being on the firewall and the M606A series was from '65-'72.

    Is it 12 or 24V?
