I was wanting to paint "Jeep 4 WHEEL DRIVE" lettering on my tailgate but did not want to pay $15 for a template that left something to be desired. I made my own template and am posting in if anyone else would like to use it.

Would it be blasphemy to paint this on the back of my 74?

Great idea, Ben. I did like you and copied my template before I started stripping the paint off my 67. But, I've been putting it off trying to find an better way to reapply it. Is there an easy way to keep the edges nice and sharp without taping each letter with masking tape? Plus the factory paint looked smooth and not built up like masked edges. The Jeep letters on the side of the tub are another worry, I've tried a couple of different methods and can't get the factory look. Any ideas?

I won't be re-applying mine until this spring but I was planning on doing one of two things; 1) Apply fine painters tape and hand cut every letter out and then have sprayed or 2) have the guy who pinstriped and lettered my sons '32 Ford pedal car hand paint the lettering. I am thinking about persueing the second option because I know he could also trim out the Jeep lettering as well and all the lettering would match.

Thank you for the stencil, I am contemplating using something along the lines of contact paper or something similar and using that as a stencil, then spraying it on and then just peeling the contact paper off...

I'll see what I can figure out. My tailgate has the original on it, been painted over but it's there.

Here is a pic out of Foster's " The Story Of Jeep" that shows one that might help a little.
