Ok so I purchased a really hot looking 66 cj5 dauntless 3spd off of ebay and think that I got a pretty good deal even though the seller lied blatantly about a number of things I am not nieve enough to think that a 1966 jeep for 3000$ is going to be in pristine condition. Another member is going to post the or some pics of it for me (thanks plunkinberry) . My friend just picked up the jeep for me in AZ i accidently posted that the jeep was in casa grande ar. Here is what he told me ( first these were the exact words of the seller "RUNS AND DRIVES AWSOME") my friend: the eng started fine and seems to run strong and smooth (said he didn't have any trouble going 75) and the 3 spd shifts fine. The seller forgot to mention that there were no seatbelts no license plate the non adjustable seat is over 4 inchs off from the steering wheel half the floor removed and crude plates bolted on over the holes all little things that i can deal with but my friend said that though the vehicle accelerates and cruises fine the minute you take your foot off the gas or let off a little to shift the, rear end or what he thinks is the rear end starts bucking and bouncing around to the point where he was initialy afraid to drive it but that it wasn't so bad that after he got used to it and was able to feather the gas and clutch properly he could more or less control it but that it was still not a comfortable process. I am sure that i will have more to post soon but i think this is enough for now. i wish i could give more info such as the exact trans and rear/front axle type, I think it's a two piece set up not fixed or free floating. Anyway I 'm looking forward to tearing into this thing and all the information and interaction i'm sure to get here and thanks to everyone for the warm welcome in the newbie forum thanks jeremy

    Hey Jeremy
The unusual bucking/bouncing when letting off can be a number of things. I'd check, and probably replace right off the bat: motor mounts and tranny mount. Either/both can cause what you describe. Also need to check spring bushings, and ubolt tightness over the axles.
There's a few things to look at when you get your hands on your rig. Check those, let us know what you think (pics will be very helpful!)...

    thanks guys

my friend after crawling around underneath says that it does indeed look like some bolts around the trans maybee missing and some others loose plus some other pictures i have seen of the underside would lead me to believe that some things you mentioned could be a factor such as the threaded ends of the u bolts broken and bent. I have already purchased an entire set of bushings for the suspension and steering components and along with new u bolts will also purchase the mounts.
    thanks again

Sounds like you got the start of a good jeep there. Tell your friend to NOT go 75 mph in it anymore. Toooo fast for ECJ's. Good luck with it and when you get everything tightened up it should improve alot

    windshield wipers

ok my jeep has no windshield wiper components (motor arms wires nada) which I am gonna need. Any ideas on where to get a whole system i'll keep trying ebay and hints on how to set the thing up. and was also wondering about bushing replacement i bought an entire set of polyurethane bushings for the drive train and suspension and was wondering what trouble i might run up against are any pressed in are there any tools i must have. i get to meet my jeep in person for the first time on the 28th but until then i'm in the dark as i am a newbie to jeeps (always wanted one just haven't had the disposable income until now) so i am sure i'll be running to the store every half hour to get tools. i've got thousands of dollars in tools but they are all metric so any hints on must have general tools for the jeep would also be greatly appreciated. thanks guys :v6:

One nice part about Jeeps - a basic toolset (3/8" and 1/2" socket set, a good wrench set (I like combo wrenches), screwdrivers, pliers, etc will do 90% of what you need.

On wipers - '66 had top mounts originally, one powered on the drivers side, and a hand-crank on the passenger - easily replaced with a motor. DONT buy the replacement wiper setups that all the Jeep suppliers carry - they are pure junk. Do a search here on the board as some good quality alternatives have been discussed at great length.
