I got these thinking they would fit my CJ5 but they do not. The hub cut out is to small and they wont snap on the wheel.

also, does anyone have a good example of what a set of hub caps on a 1970 CJ5 would of looked like or the size?

Normally I would say the black rim is a Ford rim, but I rethinking it. There are just too many Ford rims on Jeeps...

The first rims are Jeep for sure... :study::schooled:

There are two different diameter dogdish hubcaps that look the same. One size fits the "small" Jeeps (CJ, Jeepster/Commando), and the other size fits the full-size Jeeps (fsj) like Wagoneers and pickups with 15" rims. There is only about 1/4"-3/8" difference between them. The ones you have pictured are AMC era hubcaps because of the red/blue paint vs red/gold for the Kaiser era.
The larger diameter fsj hubcaps will snap on the AMC era steel rims (1980's) that have 4 retaining nubs, but the smaller diameter caps only work on the 3 nub steel Jeep rims like the white rim pictured above. I can't comment about rims other than OEM such as the black one pictured.
As far as the center cutout for the locking hub, the hubcap was designed to work with the Warn locking hub or Lock o Matic which were the main "accessory" hubs supplied by dealers back in the day. There are many other aftermarket hubs that work with the hubcaps too. The cutout also worked with the AMC fsj when they went to non-selectable hubs with the small chrome center caps.

Caps at top are for '74-on J10 and FS Cherokee 6-lug with an open 44. I suspect only the down-market Cherokee got the dog dish style, and Wagoneers all got turbines. When open, center hole on these is ca 3 13/16". The OEM caps with the center open have a nicely rolled edge. I have an extra for my J10 that's been cut out.

It seems dog dish style caps for the CJ wheel are pretty scarce. They may not exist in a RWB style, only in red/gold Kaiser motif. My '74-80 book only shows turbine caps for the 5-lug wheels - no dog dish.

This is the only cap my book shows for CJs. Those part numbers (999xxx) originate from around the Kaiser-AMC turnover. So these could have been used as far back as 1970. I have never seen an AMC CJ with dog dish caps, but many with turbines (like pic'd above).

What about early Scout rims? Could they be muddying the waters? Bolt pattern was the same.

From what I seen, most Scout rims look like Jeep stock rims...

And yes it's muddy enough... :study:

If they don’t fit would you be interested in selling them?

They all used the same suppliers. These fly by night companies had to take what was offered.

I am resurrecting this thread to re-ask the original question from 1947cj2a since I have recently encountered the same problem he did back in 2018. After installing refurbished Warn M2 hubs, the cutout of the front dog dish hub caps will not fit over the M2 body assembly (3-ring) as they did previously with a set of 29062 hubs installed (reproduction 15" 3-nub wheels). Is there a different front hub cap with a larger opening, or am I SOL unless I want to field modify the hub opening on these caps that I have?
