Is the 232 known for the same carb issues as the 258 with the idle tube problem?

Different carburetor. The 232 always got the 1-barrel (1V) Carter YF carburetor. Many 258s also got the YF, but starting in 1977, some 258s got the 2-barrel (2V) Carter BBD, which is the one that can have plugged idle tubes. around '79(?) the 232 ended production, and all the 258s then got the BBD.

The YF is a good carburetor, as long as it's not worn out and you have a good rebuild kit. If you need advice on which kit to use, the F134 used the YF too, and the owners on the Early forum could maybe steer you to a good kit.
