I can't add much, as much of what I would have said was already stated by various members on this thread. All I would add, is to turn you onto Eastwood for getting your paint and primers. In my experience, their products can be very forgiving for a novice painter. PPG makes excellent products as well, but they can be spendy.

A rotisserie is a great help. I used simple sawhorses and I had welded a 2" receiver hitch on front and back of the frame (Photo 1) . And, brackets with pipe on body (Photo2). My rotisserie was a dangerous set-up, I'm not recommending it, but I survived--I recommend a well-built, safe rotisserie! Photo 3 is to give an idea for wiring behind the dash--with dash forward and open at the top (picture is before making wiring neat & tidy)

I have a small powder coat kit and pizza oven. Did all my hinges and small parts with satin black. SS bolts, nuts, and washers bright.
A lot of the original bolts were pretty rusty and I tossed them. Wish I hadn't.

Do you have a picture how you mounted the bracket on the front of the tub? That's a clever idea!

Stainless will gall and all you have to do is oil them on anti seize them, the first time and they seem to be OK after that. I use marine store hardware, boats get into salt water, so I use Marine wire and bolts when I do anything on my Jeep. As far as hardness they are hard as a machine bolt for body bolts, the are not as hard as a grade 5, but you can fine stainless in grade 5 and up. Good luck

Don't have a better picture of the front. The front mount was a good, solid 2 x 6 about 4 foot long--it was held on the body at the firewall with big C-clamps and bolts. The 2 x 6 had a pipe with pipe flange bolted on.

I will repeat that it is risky not to have a well built rotisserie (what is pictured is not that). If that little prop stick, at the floor, got "kicked out" or the pipe came off the blocks--bad things would happen fast! There were no pets, kids or others around to blame--just me.

I'm glad I'm not alone in doing things like that.

    Actually a Canadian Tire portable.

Way back in the Mysts of Tyme ( 6 or 7 yeras ago) I knew I was going to be soon painting Tonk and a fender off our beetle Put that got doinked in a parking lot (litterally) fender bender.. I didn't want to do it in the garage because of the dust issues & overspray & limited space for maneuvering. One of the old-timey guys here, Thad who posted under "Old Bill" had one time devised a design for a portable shelter made of pvc tubing & fittings, that's what i had in mind for building a booth oustside but then it occured to me that if i could find an old portable garages for, oh say, $75 or so I'd be all set. Wasn't worried about the tarp as I would be using plastic sheeting so I had enough light.

So's I get's on Da Net & within 30 seconds I find someone about an hour away selling a good frame with a bad tarp for $75. :)

I give him a call, he gives me the directions, I load the wife into the Durango & of we go.

I get there , he shows me the frame, everything looks good. He's using the tarp to cover some lumber so I tell him to keep it and we commence into the diss-assembly.

After a bit he asks me my name, Howard Eisenhauer I say. He asks me to spell Eisnenhauer, I do & he says his last name is Eisener, but his father spelled it the same as I do. ( He says he's descended from one of three brothers who came over from Germany in 1750. I say that's interesting, I"M descended from one of three brothers who came over from Germany in 1750 o_O

After a while longer he asks me where I work, I say for the local cable/internet/wireline/wireless outfit. "OH" he says, "I work for the telephone company, do you know Jim/Steve/Ben/yaddayaddayadda, the work for the local cable/internet/wireline/wireless outfit but they used to work for the telephone company".

    I knew them all.

A while later he asks me what I want the frame for, I've got a couple of vehicles to paint I replied.

"OH" he says, what have you got? I say I have a '55 jeep to paint? Oh, he says, I've got a '56 over in the barn.

    Uh-Huh says I.

A bit later he asks what else I'm painting, got a '62 beetle says I. Oh he says, I've got a '61 over in the shed.

    Uh-Huh says I.

We finish up the frame diss-assembly & get all the bitties loaded into the Durango.

We look at the jeep, apart from a little bump & touchup on the rear passenger corner it's perfect right down to the factory canvas top.

We look at the bug- complete repaint required.

So that's how I got the frame for my paint booth :)

But you know, sometimes I can't help but get the feeling there was something a little weird about it. Maybe it's that his yard and my yard were both absolutely crawling with Earwigs.

    Yeah, that's probably it.

I like the look of new bolts, galv, zinc or stainless! Paint all separate than assemble with new bolts.
Then drive the thing and enjoy it! Don't worry bout being factory correct!
