How Does Factory Drawbar Hitch Go Together?

My TSM is at garage with my engine. Figured to connect my hitch and need to drill some holes in cross member. Doea the tombstone shaped thin plate fit between the two center vertical supports and the rear cross member? In what orientation?

Like timgr's diagram, but I'd add that the ball mounting tongue can be used "up" or "down," depending on your need. I like it "up" since it drags less often in rough country.

NP! Glad to help. Fortunately I had posted that figure previously for another purpose, and remembered where it was.

 

And one more please. What in the wide wide world of sports is this triangular gusset for? On driver's side, not on passenger.

 

Strength!

It acts to keep the rear of the frame square. Just guessing, they determined the back rectangle of the frame would go rhomboidal if you pull sideways on the drawbar. Before the rear gas tank, these frames had diagonals to the pintle plate that gave it lateral strength.

 

Having on just one side seems odd, though. I'll have to mod my exh hanger to put it back, but I guess since I have it, and because I like frames with mostly right angles, I'll do it.

 

Didn't the filler hose take up that space on the right side?

Filler hose goes over the top of the frame rail so there would be room for a right side gusset.
