My project 1959 CJ5 did not come with a stock horn. The horn that it came with (and the other antique horn that I have) is a single contact horn. (If you put the positive battery juice to the contact, it makes horn noise...)

Picture of the horn that was bolted to the Jeep project that I bought.

As I read the wiring diagrams, the horn needs two contacts. One to remain connected to battery positive, and the other to go to the lead sneaking out of the steering shaft.

So, I am looking for the closest to correct way to adapt the 2-wire horn leads from my antique CJ to the single contact (also antique) horn. Oh, and it must actually make horn noise when the steering wheel button is mashed.

    Suggestions, steering advice?

The relay idea will work. Energize the relay with the 2-contact horn circuit, and connect the horn through the relay contacts.

You could instaed insulate the horn from the fender with some insulating paper and plastic step washers. The step washers are a common electronic part, and keep the hardware from contacting the bracket. Then your two connections would be the horn terminal and a connection to the horn body.

I'd do the relay, or get a 2-contact horn.

Hate to say it, but I think JC Whitney has them.......... Might be called a Road-Runner horn there. Same thing I think (thought). No?
