what's the most likely drivetrain in my ride? I know its 3sdp, reverse is up and left, tcase is single stick, drum brakes in front i would assume its t14,d18,d27 and d30?

also in the center of my dash PO made a custom panel with gauges, so now I have a big hole, does anyone have a pic of what the dash should look like?

    thanks

I thought the Jeepster's had a centered chunk in the rear end, if it does then it is a dana 20 transfer case if it is offset to the pass side then it is a spicer 18, the t14 sounds close it may also be a t86, is the first gear syncronized, the t14 had a sycronized first while the t86 does not the dana 27 axle will more than likely have a 27a or 27 cast into to one of the webs on the side of the chunk leading to the axle tubes, the dana 30 and dana 27 axles use the same cover, the dana 44 has a completely different cover on it.

You probably have the T14/Dana 20 combo. You may or may not have the dreaded 30 rear end. look around for a casting on the web. If you have a picture of the cover we could tell you what it is.

Here is a picture of the dash.
The radio cutout on it is stock, it was for a AM radio that i had with the Commando. But the dash is uncut which is definately rare. Under the radio is a speaker grill for that fabulouds 2x6 mono speaker.

awesome, thanks for the pic Dan and the info Mike

yea looks like the PO cut out the entire speaker grille thing, i wasn't restoring anyhow

last time i drove it i'm 99% first gear is not synchroed

yea rear diff is centered and has a big nut on the end of the axles, so what is dreaded about the 30 rear?

i'm gonna keep the 225 ( especially since PO rebuilt it ) but I'd like to add like 3 inches of suspension lift and some bigger tires, would 31" tires be too much for the axles and/or drivetrain?

    thanks again

you still may hve the 2 piece 44, which is not as bad as that 2 piece model 20 a few years alter. as long as you keep it tight you shouldnt have ny prob. The model 30 rear end is just an anomily. first off it is a model 30, and they were used for the front end (with knuckle installed) the ring gear is small and parts for it is pretty scares. A cj axle can be swapped in pertty easily, but you will ahve to move the spring perches outward since the jeepster rear springs are outboarded from the frame, so it just needs a bit of work, but the CJ axle will be the same width and work fine. Putting a CJ front end on (dana 30) will be easier since the front springs are under the frame is should be almost a bolt on affair.

Could be wrong, but the rear 30 may have only been offered in the TH400 automatic equipped C101s. It's easy to ID - the cover is round instead of 8-cornered as the Dana 44 is.

Nope Tim. I have a V-6, t14, D20 TC, and a D30 rear. Replacing it with a one piece D44 out of a later model Commando.
