Anybody do the reverse ford steering box conversion on their V6? How did it work out?

    http://www.hermtheoverdriveguy.com/id83.htm

I am rebuilding my Ross but I am having trouble finding a V6 sector shaft so maybe now it is time to switch to p/s.

    Thanks

Two words. Saginaw Steering. The idea behind Herm's steering is good but I'm not a fan. Way too many clearance issues, availability issues on parts, etc., etc.
Saginaw is tried, true, parts are readily available, has few clearance issues, is very adjustable for different vehicle setups, and it just plain works...

It's a pain to do but worth it in the end for easy steering. You might need a welder, I did. The lack of directions where a pain in the butt. It's like playing tetris...but you have to make your own pieces. If there's any demand for it I think I could write up a decent how to for Herm's kit. Actually...I may do it so we can put it in the Tech section so people will have a better idea of what's involved.

    Thanks Guys!

I see what you mean Nick, Even Herm was kinda iffy on his kit when I emailed him, so I'll Just finish rebuilding the Ross and use the same sector shaft, put in new bushings etc, keep it going a few more years till my kids are on their own. I can't spend a lot on myself right now. The saggy conversion will be on my wish list of upgrades. Along with d30 axle. and the locking differentials.

I did my own a long time ago, but the jeep has been stuck in limbo for years to really test it out, and yeah as mentioned above, I had some clearance issues with the radiator and the steering links but it should work out great when I am done.. Had I doen ti again though, prolly go the more traditional route..

You'll probably notice the different front crossmember, that was a result of frame boxing and having to clearance the original anyway for the steering box. It's the rear crossmember from a '53 (I think) willy's wagon that I cut up.. (it was junk and the driveline was given to another member here so don't kill me.. haha)
I have not looked at Herms kit in detail but I'm assuming it's similar, that's the steering box from an early 80's Ford van.
