Hello all. I'm new here, so hi. I found this forum while searching parts for my 1970 Jeepster Commando, with the Dauntless V6. I figure here would be a good place for questions. the Jeep was my grandfathers, who purchased it new in 1969, I will technically be the second owner. it is in pretty ok shape, it runs (if I put in a new battery) but needs lots of little work. I did time as a jeep/4x4 mechanic, just haven't worked on stuff this old, and I would like to do the jeep justice.

Couple of beginner questions. Air filter- Jeep has the original Rochester 2bbl and original oil filter. can I change this to a regular paper or K&N filter? I know next to nothing about the rochester carbs, but I know I want to keep it. I don't like the filter though.

Next question I have is about shocks. Can't seem to find stock lengths. But do I need stock lengths? I have a helper spring set I was going to put on the back to see if it works good, as the original is now quite saggy. will the helper springs raise it enough to warrant the 2" lift shocks? Helper springs on the front, any experience with that?

Any aftermarket paper filter and housing, if of the proper size will work on the 2GC. There will probably be a few members wanting to buy your oil bath filter.
I just went to the 4X4 shop in the next town for shocks, Ranchos. Mine has about an one inch lift in the rear. No problems.

I have the oil bath filter on mine (original to this jeep) and it has been on it since new. I just wash it out and replace the oil with used oil and go. Never had any issues since 1970.

 

Welcome. Lots of options for air filters. Not easy to find but 71's, which was also the last year for the 225, used a paper element style air breather assembly if you're going for an original look. Wagoneer and Gladiator with the 350 Buick used the same style. I run a cheap 10" chrome Edlebrock on my 71. Lots of guys prefer the original oil bath over the paper filter, personnel choice really.
