You might as well buy from the UK. I check in on HMVF once in a while and they seem to have more WWII military vehicles per mile than we have.

    Ive got another idea.
How about I pull the bow to the outside of the bracket and use the thumb screw through the bow to the bracket that way.
Once loosened it will drop down giving me the clearance.

I think there would be nothing to prevent it from pivoting.

Might work if the tailgate straps hold, but (again) releasing them would then be required every time taking in or out of the grotto.

Contacted jeep parts U.K. and have bought two thumb screws for £6 each plus postage.
Also tried to buy two front bow brackets but there dont have them and can't get them.
Peter Debella has them for $15 dollars each but he kindly told me the postage charge of $50.
The postage and the import tax which also includes the postage charge, and the fee by the Royal Mail just make buying from overseas just not worth it.
Man I tell ya, government departments will rip your eyes out if you let them!
    Thats my rant over with.
Can't find any in the europe and I do have an advert on HMVF.
The photo is of the bow brackets I need.

Looks like those could be made pretty easily.

They are in essence just an (almost) flate plate with a welded nut, thread size to accept the thumb screws.
They merely hold the bows when in the storage position.

They also are extremely effective at fracturing one's elbow when exiting the jeep.:mad::mad:

That whole import/post fee thing seems wrong. I've bought a lot of stuff on ebay, shipped internationally without paying any duty. It is usually labelled as "spare parts" or such. I'd suggest digging a bit deeper, and checking into mininum values, or tax categories, that are exempt.

Pete, I checked this out as I was fuming at the cost of my recent buys from Kaiser jeep parts
Kaiser's prices were ok but the shipping costs, import duties, taxes etc were very offputting

I read some stuff on the HMVF forum about how they ship things from overseas, A 18,000 lb vehicle and then you have the VAT to pay as well?
GB must be a nice place to live if you can put up with all of that.

Dang George - if I knew when my next trip to the UK was I'd just put them in my bag and bring them for you. I'm sure we could figure out how to get them from Windsor to Washington :)

It would be easy Warlock, you just put them in a padded envelope, write my address on it, go to a Post Office and buy and stick on the stamp.
Place it in the slot of the red post box and it will be collected and delivered to me the next day.
The Postman will say " Good morning Sir, and how are you this lovely sunny day?"
I'll say just cut the crap and give me my ****ing parcel!

By the way, the thumb screws were sent back as they were fine thread and not rough thread.
