Heater Craft - Heater Upgrade

Has anyone installed the heater from Heater Craft in an early cj5? I would like some feedback and pics after install if possible. I have attached a photo of the one I am thinking about getting.

 

I just installed this one in my jeep a couple weeks ago.
I'm happy with it.

 

installed one in my sons 65 CJ5, he says it cooks him out when on high, he loves it.

James I think just the blower motor is powered 12V. Ties into cooling system. Mounts up under passenger side. I will probably run it thru a relay.

 

Mmm... an electric heater for a car is not realistic IMO. If your alternator makes 100 amps at a generous 14 volts, that's only 1400 watts. In BTU, that's about 5000 BTU/hr. The Summit heater makes about 28,000 BTUs. Your alternator can't generate enough power to heat the Jeep cabin - the heat has to come from the cooling water.

I used the summit heater and mounted it to the firewall behind the glove box. I purchased a bulkhead fitting to run the lines through the firewall.
the only pics I have are in my build thread. Norcal69's common sense build.
Further down in my build you can see the vents that I used. They were from vintage air.

I used the summit version of that heater. I am restoring my Jeep, so I want to keep things looking original. I keep the heater box in the engine compartment, will block all air flow through it, but ran the heater hoses through the box to the new heater. I installed my heater on the drivers side and hook the ducting into the existing phylum under the dash. The original heater control panel will be used to direct the heat to the defrosters if needed.

 

I really like your approach. Please show your blocked-off heater box and/or what it looks like when everything is buttoned back up and your dash is re-installed. I still have the original setup and the old-fashioned AM radio style "pushbutton" controls.

How will you direct heat to the passenger compartment?

Looking forward to the finished install . The wife is not crazy about the anemic output of our 66.

 

I got some metal heater hose connectors from NAPA. I welded the connectors to some metal and then welded the metal with the connector into the heater box that goes in the engine compartment. The heater hose will run to the heater box on the fire wall then the hose will pick up on the other side of the connector and go to the heater under the dash on the drivers side.

I took the phylum that goes under the dash and made a cap for a 3 inch hose and attached it to the phylum. Had to change the outlet to defroster to 3 inch.

The other 3 inch outlet on the new heater. I made a outlet from a louver I got from Summit. This will bolt on the flange on the bottom of the dash and should not be seen.

The heater control, will control the defrost cycle only. If the button is not pressed heat will blow though the phylum to the floor.
