I'm probably full of it again, but doesn't the Ford 1/2 ton 5 1/2 x 5 bolt pattern have a center hole which is too small to fit over the Jeep front hub? The old ones did, and one of my co-workers just offered some free Ford wheels for my 5, but I had him check his, and sure enough, they wouldn't have worked. I actually had a two-watt brained neighbor 30 years ago who was driving a flat-fender with Ford chromes. Someone had simply hot-wrenched the centers to fit. The stud holes were all cracked out....... I stayed waaaay back! Jeez, I just re-read that post. Was it being suggested that the whole hub be changed out to fit this Ford pattern? No wonder I'm usually full of it!

welp, i was just trying to state what i saw over the last semester at work.... but it was on a much cheaper rim than would be seen on any car. hopefully. two sections were brought together, both had the counterbore mentioned but the inner one was pinching the lug and not allowing it to hit a uniform seating (if that makes any sense). the rims would work themselves loose and end up deforming around the lugs holes. a chamfer seemed to solve the problem. at least it solved the deformation and long mounting times seen on the assembly line... it does happen but, it hopefuly is nothing like you'd see on a car.

most likely a bad design though... both bores matched spec, but there was also an interference on a production product in cad?? anyone want to go into production with a bolt hole that won't line up??

Steamer what you said about the center bore sounds right as I bored out a set of wheels for a friend of mine last summer to fit on his vehicle (but I think his was put on a dodge).

Way back when, you could buy cheap wide wheels for Jeeps made from Ford centers and new rims. The manufacturer would cut out the center to clear the Jeep hub. Many people had trouble with these wheels cracking from a lug hole to the center hole - removing that right-angle ring around the inside of the hub hole weakens the wheel.
