My frame is shot on my 64' CJ-5, so is the body, thinking about building a frame from 2x4x3/16" tube. Anybody done this before? I know you can buy them but it doesen't seem that complicated. Any thoughts would be helpful.

I'll be building mine when it comes time to stretch. I'll be using 3/16ths wall...either 2x3 or 2x4. Just weld the joints well and then fishplate all of the joints. Some DOM will make good cross members. A few tabs and bushings for engine and tranny mounts and you are set.
It'll give you such a better platform to build from. Welding to clean straight, thicker steel is much more enjoyable.

I have built a couple of em. Really no need to do all the fishplates and gussets if you go with 3/16th. Stock frames were just c-channel and only 1/8". I have been using DJ frames as they are about the strongest Jeep universal frame ever made and are really cheap. A lot of extra time and money to go and build one from scratch.

Depending on what axles you want to use, a new frame could be a good thing.
Been watching this build, he is using waggy axles and made the frame wider to match the spring perches.

Yep, it's a Pirate build so don't let small children around while reading it.
