I recently acquired a 1963 CJ5 with a 1969 Dauntless V-6 (225 ci) engine. I am missing the hand control throttle and, I believe, the mounting bracket on the carburetor. I can find a new hand throttle cable. I have seen some brackets for mounting the cable at the carburetor, but not actually installed. Here is my problem. I do not know what it looks like because I have never seen one. I cannot find pictures or installation diagrams. I need help please. Can anybody provide some detailed pictures or guide me to set up instructions? Thank you.

Or a hand throttle to operate PTO?

The 2G on a dauntless didn't have a hand throttle. As indicated above there is a manual choke. Here is a pic.

Have seen a pic of a throttle cable hooked up on this site, but couldn't find it this morning.

Hi again. I think jwmckenzie may have my answer. Maybe the Dauntless V6 never came with the hand throttle. My cj5 is 1963 and most likely had the four cylinder engine originally. Maybe that engine had the hand throttle. I had one on my 1953 Power Wagon. It was very convenient for warming up the engine and for the PTO. I just thought I might install one if it was possible. Thanks for the input and picture. By the way, my cj5 was “Indian Ceramic” originally.

Once again, thanks Jon for the link on hand throttles. According to the picture the hand throttle was a feature on the early cj’s, at least on certain models.

Welcome to the forum! Your Tuxedo Park is a MKlll with the unique color. The V6 is not original to your Jeep, with the V6 being introduced in 1966. As far as I know, the V6s were never equipped with the hand throttle like the previous F134 Jeeps were.
If you rig a hand throttle, make sure the linkage doesn't interfere with safe operation of the floor throttle linkage. Try to mimic the setup used on the 4 cylinder engine.

I use my hand choke as a throttle (for warm up), all the time.
Pull out enough to get it on the fast idle cam, then without touching the throttle, shut it back off, closing the butterfly, but leaving it on the fast idle cam. Can adjust idle anywhere u need.
Just don't hit the gas or u'll have to set it all again .

I too use the choke as a warm-up throttle necause it helps get the odd-fire warmed up - a chore made more difficult with headers. The hand throttle would do this well, but also more out in the pasture. Thanks.

I know this is an old thread but I was playing around with my hand throttle and choke today myself. I have a 1966 CJ5 Tuxedo Park with the V6 Dauntless and still have the original manual. I will put a photo below in hopes that it helps others. But mine did come original with a hand throttle and choke. In the photo #1 (top pull knob) is the hand throttle and #2 is the choke.

Cory, the photo you included may have been found in your ‘66 owners manual, but it was recycled from prior years, probably 1963. This was a common practice for Willys and Kaiser in the 1950s and 1960s. The photo shows a chrome rimmed speedometer found only on the 1963 MK lll Tux, and it also shows the early 3 chrome knobs for heat vent controls, last used in ‘63. New for the 1964, Kaiser Jeep went to 3 small black pushbutton vacuum operated vent controls with a rotary fan switch on the left. The photo also shows a column shift, which was featured on late ‘63 MKlll Tuxes, and the ‘64 and ‘65 MKlV F134 Tuxes.
The early F134 CJ Jeeps featured both a choke and a throttle control, but the factory never included the throttle control for the V6 that appeared in the 1966 model year. Every pre-‘67 V6 dash I have seen had a snap=in plug in the throttle cable location. Some dealer PTO options added a hand throttle, but I have yet to ever see one on a V6 model.
Adding a throttle has been a common modification for the past 45+ years.

FWIW....my 67 CJ-6 Tuxedo Park with Dauntless 225 has a hand throttle in that location, no PTO equipment per se since a WARN Overdrive is installed.

I appreciate the info, good to know just for historical purposes of my Jeep. The hand throttle is nice to have for sure. The choke is not currently hooked up. I have to look a little closer at it and get it hooked back up so it is functional. I have it, so might as well make it all functional.
