Saw that but assumed you meant a hydraulicly operated system. Mechanical leverage traded against travel - but no free lunch.

You meant power-assisted? Like a HydroVac or such?

Apparently I've been doing it wrong all these years. I have a dash mounted mico-lok on most trail jeeps that locks the brakes for me. I run the clutch and throttle with my feet and then release the brakes. lol

Probably...I thought a hydraulic clutch was power assist.

Me, I just use the OEM dash mounted parking brake. :)

Or a little heel-and-toe action sometimes.

If you have an automatic transmission, you don't need that third foot.

Rockford seemed to be able to reverse direction ok ... pretty sure that gold Trans Am was an automatic.

My Jeep is the one with the choke and throttle to the left of the speedometer, with the choke and throttle identical cables going to the back of the carburetor. But the throttle cable is siezed (at least for now).

But the choke is linked to open the throttle body a bit as it closes some, so gently running the choke mostly in provides as much hand throttle I need.

I think the throttle only cable (a solid wire type) has a cable end, so pulling it pulls the throttle lever, but when in allows the foot throttle to work its full range.

My 63 was (is) a Tux. I miss my hand throttle, for all of the reasons posted in this thread. Inwould love to see any pictures you have of the hand throttle cable bracket for attachment to the carburetor. Thanks very much.

This probably helps little, but here it is. Mine is a solex carb. I got a throttle cable from a tractor store and made it work. I honestly can't remember what brackets it had and what I made.

Hello ITLKSEZ: Thank you for the picture. I guess it cannot be too hard to make something. A picture always helps get me an idea or two. I appreciate everybody’s input.

DIY brackets, made from scrap. Top bracket is manual choke. Lower bracket is for pull-twist-lock throttle--pictured @ post #5 on page 1. This is on a '67 CJ5 w/ 225 V6 Dauntless and a Rochester 2 Jet carburetor.

The chain is a good idea. Jeep's cruise controls use a ball chain from the servo to the throttle. You want to be sure that whatever you rig up does not stop you from using the throttle, and especially that it does not jam with any throttle action from the pedal or the cable throttle. Note the large hole in ITLKSEZ's bracket that slides over the rigid cable.

    might as well add another
    throttle cable - Copy.JPG
washer with nut welded and Teflon bushing for cable . sandwiched between two throttle plates . and it floats on pin
    throttle cable1 - Copy.JPG
just a cable bracket . added to fuel line support

thing to keep in mind when doing this . IT'S a manual cruise control . that doesn't shut off with brake or clutch

I used a bicycle brake cable and brake lever. Here is where it goes thru the firewall with a cable stop and comes out other side to throttle linkage.

Here's how the lever was installed. It's all very very simple and works great.
