How tall of a tire are ya'll running?

I have a 71 with 231OF, T14, D18, D27, D44F, and am trying to see if i can get away with a lift and taller/ bigger tires, or need to just keep it stock height.

    Thanks,
    Justin

33s are about the limit IMO. It's an overall happy combination with the v6, but you'll probably be downshifting up hills.

Before starting my rebuild, my 68 had basically your same set-up except with the original Dauntless 225 odd-fire running 3.73's and BFG KM2 33x10.50 tires and 2 1/2" lift. No real issues or complaints...a very driveable set-up, although you will give up a bit in off-road ability and crawl ratio. I am going with the same set-up in the rebuild if that is any indication.

the bigger the tire = less turning radius . I did the 33's once :D till they wore out

D00F251D-A2E4-41B2-ABF8-EF654E30923A.jpeg I have a 3.73 gears with 31x10.50 tires and a 2-1/2” lift. Works well for what it is.

I ran 33x 9.50s with 3.73s for a while. Ok on the road but couldn't go slow enough off road s lot of times. Seemed like I was always on the brakes trying to slow it down. Wet drum brakes were the worst. Running 4.88 now but haven't wheeled it since. Good on the road but an OD would make it ideal.

    Thanks for the insite guys.
I think i'm gonna have to bit the bullet and order wider wheels.
Tall tire sizes are like hens teeth these days.

I don't have any real on the road experience but I'm going to run 33s with 3.73 and v6.
I thought I once read here about an "under-drive" ? That would be good for me as I do plan on putting a good part of my miles off road.

I saw years ago where somebody converted the low range unit from a quadratrac to fit in a D18 where the OD usually goes. I think it was on pirate. Definitely a custom, 1-off unit.

I run 35s with 3.73s. Downshifting on hills or long grades is a way of life. It was still an issue with 33s. We'll be going to 4.27s on the next round.

I don’t remember which ratios are available for each axle but isn’t 4:11 the next down?

What RPM are you at for 60 or 65?

    Trying to pick my ratio!:)

2100+ at 60, 2300+ at 65. That's in the flat, she loses too much on grade. I already have the 4.27s which would give me another 300 or so RPM at speed.
