Just tought of that, what about if i polish the cavity and go with a nickel plating. I have a place in my town that do plating. I can also make the relocation adapter plated so i could get rid of the midplate, wont need to use two gasket.

Since bulltear offer a ready nickel plating front cover the process may be hard to reproduce for something cheaper than the 450$ they ask for.

What is you're tought on that?

I'm explorating all the possibility so seeing youre blueprint post i know you're right about doing the thing the right way.

As I mentioned I have lots of race parts coated for additional Lubrication and sometimes wear resistance........which is normally a spray on process that also gets baked..............not sure that you could do nickel plating in that environment and expect it to stay there , A hard chrome process may work..............and and be done to aluminum Hard Chrome Plating - Industrial Chrome

But not sure it it would be cost effective..........

Over all your getting into areas that can become pricey but only return limited results.........

So i send a email with picture to a guy i use to do business with. They specialized in hard chrome plating for cylinder and other stuff. He will come back to me pretty soon.

From there is not a question of pricey thing but having the best for the money.

I've been reading a lot and it seem that replacement cover is almost like gambling, if you're lucky you will have a perfect one but as i seen people have problem with cover that are out of specs. So spending 300-500$ on a replacement cover that may be out of spec doesnt make me feel so much happy.

I understand...........is there a distributor or anyone / anywhere up that way , that perhaps may stock those covers? To the point where you could grab a few and measure and return what you don't need?

Just got the answer from my chrome guy, he's not able to do it on aluminium....he talked to me about the nickel plating...

Just don't know what to do from there...

I may ended up working on the end plate clearance, everywhere i read talk about this clearance only. the inside cavity doesn't seem to bother on all the different forum. Even Tim told me that here.

I'M trying one more place in my town that i didnt think off that i've been refered to. They are rebuiting aluminium cylinder for snowmobile. They are using a special plating that is durable to heat and wear and it help reducing friction.

Giving a last chance to them so i will keep in touch.

Was looking over the timing chain and i think that there is too much play in it.

Here a picture of the play.

So Tarry, i just make the order for a proform cover. I just call the shop that rebuilt the engine and he always put proform cover when they have too. And if it's out of tolerance i can return it no problem to get a new one. But he said that never happen before.

I also bought new set of timing chain a double roller kit that he recommend.

I will get them by next week.

So a little preparation for the job that is coming.
Sandblasted the pulley and put a primer with two coat of gloss black. I going to single row pulley to double row pulley for the alternator. I'm still keeping the idler pulley so the belt coverage should be good now for the cs144i installed last year.

Also i check the difference between the oem water pump and the flowkooler one i bought. There is a big difference in conception.

And i also bought the suggested thermostat for the flowkooler pump. Its a robertshaw 180 deg, yan can see the difference in the conception here's too. It allow more flow than the oem one. I can't wait to see the result.

Just receive my cover. need to mesure and see if thing line up but seem good a first wiew.

But for the timing chain, for having reading about how critical can be the oiling when i inspected the cam gear it did not have the oil groove inside ot it, only the key groove.

So i search on internet the cloyes part number (c3028-x) to find out that is listed for a chrysler engine.

So i will have to return and i decide to order a comp cam gear set.

But i will only have it next week, i cannot start working on it this week-end.

Sunday work, took me all day to work on end clearence for the oil pump. It take a lot of patience for the lapping process, i ididn't expect taking this amount of time.

So i may have assemble and disassemble the pump around 8-10 time to get to the clearence i wanted to.

Pretty much start with 0.006" end clearance but the oem specs said 0.002 to 0.006" and i wanted to be on the tight side. So lapping, more lapping and even more lapping.

But i'm satisfied with the result i'm around 0.002 and 0.0025" of clearance right now.

Thank you for the comment i realy appreciate all the input you gave me. I also bought a 1/4" drive torquewrench so i have the right torque for the bolt on the oil pump.

For this kind of work you have to take the time so thing are done the right way and i don't want to regret no doing it in the middle of the wood this summer.

i do refer a lot to the blueprint 225 and the jeephammer thread on jeepforum page. You gave a lot a details that make the work to a newbie an easy thing.

As for the cover i took a lot of mesure to compare my old one and my new one and everything seem to be on specs.

Now i need to wait to the new tming chain and sproket so i can move further on the work.

Yeah, that's my next step. Oil pan is still on the engine, i will get this off this week.

I read somewhere that engine from jeep suppose to have some king of baffing. If not i will try to do something like you did on the blueprint.

I know when i'm going down a big slope i now that i start missing oil.
